Is this the same transfer as in the scarlet box or a new one?

The original UK Anchor Bay HELLRAISER release back in May 2009 was region free . . . then along came Arrow in Oct. 2015 with their Scarlet Box and locked it . . . now this new disc is reportedly back to region free status . . . same transfer.
As we all know this will be 4th Blu-ray release from Arrow of this title and the popular yet cult status of the film, clearly helped by the steelbook packaging, resulting in similar demand to that of other cult films released in steelbooks - FRIGHT NIGHT and THE BURNING being two recent examples that come to mind of UK horror releases selling out quickly.

As for the artwork, immortalised on this steelbook, on poster and on the soundtrack sleeve - fingers crossed it'll look just fine in-hand with some sheen to the underside of the chains to the profile and to those pins . . .

Hoping that it looks better in-hand than its Mondo steelbook relative LABYRINTH, at least, as not a fan of that front artwork.

For anyone just wanting the re-mastered in 2K Arrow disc of the film in the clear Amaray it's still available from HMV in their "5 for 30 quid" promo - same disc as in the steelbook apart from the region "B" locked status of the Amaray

. . . and, finally, as for the 55 quid screening price - that does include the limited to 350 poster for each ticket purchased.
Quote from Prince Charles Cinema
"HELLRAISER - 35mm presentation - exclusive posdter with every ticket!
Mondo, in conjunction with Arrow Video, is thrilled to host a 30th anniversary screening of one of the greatest horror movies of the '80s, Clive Barker's HELLRAISER, back where the nightmare originally began. The Prince Charles Cinema hosted the first-ever public screening of HELLRAISER 30 years ago, so it's only fitting that they come to The PCC for a special one-off screening of the film on 35mm direct from Arrow Video’s vault.
To add to the excitement of Mondo’s very first London screening event, they will be bringing an exclusive variant of their forthcoming soundtrack reissue of HELLRAISER (a full two weeks ahead of the actual release date), and all tickets will include an exclusive screen-printed poster by artist Matt Ryan Tobin."

For me personally, £55 for the "special one off screening" plus exclusive, limited poster is waaaay too much - but then again i don't anything about prices for limited edition mondo posters. I went to a couple Arrow screeenings in London last year (Hills have eyes and The Burning) and the tickets were roughly around £15 each, if my memory serves me right. Do theses type of limited edition posters cost around £35 - £40? I don't know. But If they do, then fair enough. Still, £55 to see a movie and get a poster is a bit heavy.......IMHO.

This art would actually work better as gloss.

I like arrow matte steels but the art is so faint and darkened that I think matte would kind of ruin it.

Like I said before its been done before with King of New York so maybe they will with this too.

But I was skeptical when I see the mock up video

I have never seen the movie (not a horror fan) but this steelbook looks boring. And it has so called Mondo art?

And the disc has tons of extras and it's a better transfer?
And yet some fans don't want it not because the art is dull and dark but because it's not glossed and bossed?

In other words, it sounds like a lot of people really would actually by a glossed turd after all.
It's not like everyone prefer a glossy just because. As Flloydo said, some arts, especially in this case the 'Hellraiser' steelbook would probably look better glossy because of its dark art and i agree with that. That being said, i'm getting it regardless, love the movie and the steelbook looks very nice to me.

Buying a steelbook because you like the movie?
I mean if that's why people buy steelbooks how do you explain premium editions for titles like:

Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman, Suicide Squad, Alien Covenant, Prometheus, King Arthur Legend of the Sword, Rogue One, The Force Awakens, Avengers Age of Ultron...the list goes on.
All I ever read on forums everywhere is how disappointed movie goers were after watching these films.

There hasn't been a decent Alien movie since Aliens (that's 4 stinkers in a row for those counting) and everybody is already planning to buy the premium editions of the next 3 (or is it 4?) Alien films that Ridley Scott plans to churn out.

And now some are asking for Batman & Robin? What's next? Star Trek V?

Buying a steelbook because you like the movie? Who does that anymore? :wtf:;)

Interested to read that post and you point of view Stygian. Personally if I'm going to go for a steelbook firstly the movie needs to pass a certain quality threshold (personal taste) but the package (art choice) needs to strike a chord also. I'm probably in the minority but finish I can let slide. If I'm going premium the thresholds are raised by say 20%... My shelf space is so overun with discs etc. I need some sysyem in place friends! Hellraiser ticks both movie and artistic thresholds for me personally...so I'm in!! Have a great weekend all.

Prices for the posters from the Mondo shop appear to range from $30 to $80 . . . but for editions more limited - such as this one for HELLRAISER (350) - the "sky's the limit" (lol) . . . and I'm guessing that the cinema patrons will be able to recoup at least the price of the ticket from the sale of the poster if they wish.to go down that path . . .

Just consider the life of one of the ltd. ed. Mondo posters - the Matthew Woodson screen print poster artwork for BULLITT 36" x 24" (275) - incidentally my first choice for the front of the upcoming BULLITT steelbook . . . original price $45 ($65 for the B&W variant) - one is being auctioned on the bay in The States and is already almost up to $350 (+P&P) with 20 bids and one hour remaining on the clock . . .
The B&W variant is available for $200 + P&P.

The question, "Are these limited edition film posters for top or cult films by famous artists worth buying when released?" can be answered thus, "F*** yea".

........well, i better book my ticket for that one off screening then, lol! But yeah, if they have collectability then there is that to consider. I didn't know that.

I do. I don't buy the premium editions though, that's too expensive for me. I go with Arrow Video steelbooks, or Zavvi as i find that the prices are generally quite reasonable and you can also pick some of them up in one of their sales or price reductions. For me, a movie has to have rewatch value, that's what jusifies my purchase in the first place. I don't buy movies in steelbooks just for the sake of collecting steelbooks. There are movies i love that come in, what most people regard as, a subpar steelbook - "Quarermass and the pit" is a good example. But that's the type of movie i would never have imagined would get a steelbook release, so having a classic horror film like that in a steelbook is a big bonus, IMO. (By the way, personally i like that steelbook.). The movie must be worth it for me, or else it's no buy.
Out of the films you mentioned i have only seen one - Avengers Age of Ultron. I loved it, and i really like Zavvi's first steelbook of that. That was a blind buy for me but it payed off, luckily.

I purchase steelbooks as do a lot of other now get the steelbook release of a film instead of the amaray and is why you have a lot of steelbook releases be it new films or back catalog releases
I purchase a steelbooks for the packaging and the film on Blu-ray itself and prefer steelbooks to amaray ediions

When a new film gets released the one I will look to purchase first will be a steelbook release and some I will also get a amaray if it includes a slipcover but the steelbook come first choice

Back catalog releases I will also get a steelbook release if it's a film I like even if I already have it on Blu-ray

When it comes to films like Hellrasier I get all releases be it a box set or a steelbook as it's one of my favorite horror films

So you do get a lot of people buying steelbooks simply because they like the movie and the steelbook packaging

Watched this for the first time yesterday (lol) and found it better than OK and quite a bit less gruesome than I'd been led to believe. Uncut it is but I often had the feeling that certain scenes were truncated in order to make the film more appealing to a wider audience.
Certainly as stylish as anything coming out of Italy from around that time too.

Great score . . . although I think I'd have preferred the original choice of the Coil electronic score.

"Skinned Frank" also inspired by Titian / his studio drawings for the book "De humani corporis fabrica" (1543) by Andreas Vesalius according to the writer/director Clive Barker.
According to Wiki, "A copy of the book bound in tanned human skin was donated to Brown University's John Hay Library by an alumnus. Its cover is "polished to a smooth golden brown" and, according to those who have seen the book, it looks like fine leather. Covering medical books in human skin was not an uncommon practice until the 18th century, utilizing the skin of executed convicts and poor people who died with no one to claim the body"

Picked up on various things that reminded me of other films (lol)
. . . including the house in Cricklewood (about 5 miles down the road from my pad) which reminded me of the house in THE AMITYVILLE HORROR (even if only the shape of the roof).
Cricklewood, London -------------- Long Island, New York

I would recommend if you not watched already if your interested the history of Hellrasier watching Leviathan – The Story of Hellraiser which is in HD on the Arrow Video Blu-ray
Part 1 is on the Hellrasier Blu-ray and Part 2 on Hellbound: Hellraiser II Blu-ray and The Story of Hellraiser III on Hellrasier III Blu-ray

The Scarlet box set also has a bonus disc of extras with the excellent feature Hellraiser: Evolutions in HD

There is a full version of Leviathan – The Story of Hellraiser available on a 3 Disc DVD with more extras and interviews which is now sold out

It's best to few the films first if not seen the films yet before you watch Leviathan – The Story of Hellraiser or the other extras as it contains spoliers

Sold out already that didn't take long really wanted this hopefully some will be cancelled.
It's very likely to come back in stock
USA steelbook went live to pre order a few days after UK was live
UK sold out within in a few hours on Wednesday
I would expect the amazon price to drop for the USA steelbook so some USA members will cancel UK release and order USA release instead + you will have usual cancellations and payment problems but it won't last long in stock when it does come back on Zavvi website

Yeah, back in stock - should be at least two in there, ended up cancelling mine in the end.
After all, i'm also considering to cancel and get me a complete box with all movies or at least part 1-3.
I really wanted to like the design but sad Pinhead + matte washed out finish makes me reconsider.

Yeah, i get you. I do think the design is ok, though....JUST, but i'm fed up chuckin' hard earned money at the these companies when they give us very little back. I have the Scarlet box release........now THERE's a package, but i've noticed with Arrow that they try to squeeze as much cash out of us as they can ( especially of late) with limited editions of the same movie - limited edition steelbook, and limited edition digipak or amaray in hard slipbox. To me, looks like they're getting greedy because then they can release 10,000 limited editions - for example, 5000 steelbooks, 5000 hard slipboxes.
But i agree with what you say - why leave a design like this as matte?! I thought about it for a while, and then i thought, "You know what? They haven't made the effort."
