Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

Around January this year, I experienced the same problem Ocielz describes with The Last Exorcism. I placed an order on 01/15 and on 01/27, and both orders were returned to amazon.fr as un-deliverable.

On January 10th, I placed an order of two IB box sets w/steelbook. That order was delivered no problem. The address did not change for all orders, so the address was not the issue. Something is going on with customs, where they are not recognizing the address, and just shipping them back to amazon.fr.

From what I was reading, as of May this was still an issue over at amazon.fr. Not sure if it's still an issue, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

I used standard shipping for all 3 orders.

I've also heard of others having issues with Amazon.fr for a similar reason. Just never delivered, no slip, and returned to Amazon, with no address error. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Here's a post from DVDtalk - a user named Cameron posted it - no real response for him that helped. It happened at the end of January of this year. I'll keep digging.

Hey all,

Was wondering of there were any U.S. customers who may have had similar problems. I have twice now made an order with Amazon.fr, but the package was sent back to them twice as undeliverable with the reason "unknown". My address is correct, but I'm wondering if there is some weird formatting or something that is causing a problem. But that still doesn't make sense, because my address was already in their system as a customer, and I haven't had a problem getting packages from the UK site and the German site with the exact same address. A rep from France just called and wasn't sure what to do; I thought I'd try leaving off the last four digits of the extended zip code. Here's a generic look at how it appears:

John Smith
7500 9TH ST N APT 200
Alexandria, VA 12345-6789
United States

...so, would this make any difference?:

John Smith
7500 9TH ST North #200 (or maybe 7500 N. 9TH ST #200?)
Alexandria, VA 12345
United States

Anyone with a similar experience or advice?

No problem. I didn't realize this was an issue for amazon.de as well.

Twice I've ordered Blu-rays from Amazon France, and both times the packages were returned to it as undeliverable, though the address was fine. They say the problem is with my post office, which I can well believe...but what's the hang-up? Is there anything else that could be causing the trouble, like the shipper (DHL)? I'm in Brooklyn, NY if that makes a difference.

Follow up post from same user...

By switching to "expedited" (i.e. costlier) shipping and thereby from DHL to UPS I solved the problem and am now the proud owner of Gaumont's A MAN ESCAPED, FRENCH CANCAN, MR 73, and 36 QUAI DE ORFEVRES.

Darc-it's the first time it's happened to me at all with Amazon.de, but I am starting to wonder if when the address labels are printed, it's somehow lumping together the zipcodes, making the numbers look too long. Or, if it's assuming it's actually shipping to the origin country (system set up for origin country, and then someone has to manually go in, in order to change it to another country). I don't know...often things happen when data is transmitted to different systems. Some kind of manual override issue, etc could possibly explain why it's happening sometimes and not other times. :dunno:

The Duke has a good post over at BD. I know David and he's ordered a bunch of times from amazon.fr.

At least one person in the U.S. had mis-directed his shipment to UK customs, who returned it to Amazon.fr, and that might have happened in your case. It seems to be screwing up DHL who is My suggestion is to upgrade to Expedited ("Eclair") shipping, Which is only 4.50 Euro more per order. It's shipped through UPS Worldwide Saver and is delivered via UPS ground in the U.S.. I've had three orders shipped via Eclair in the past few months and I get them in AZ in 3-4 days. I'm spoiled, I will not go back to standard shipping.

And he had another post which states that amazon.fr doesn't do Chronopost for expedited anymore (WOOHOO), it's UPS. :oohyeah: :D

That was probably Ibc Customs Brokerage Inc. They charge a brokerage fee and intercede as Chronopost sends it to the U.S. from France, and then takes over FedEx for delivery in the U.S.. Last year Amazon.fr using what Chronopost / FedEx but they recently switched to UPS, Which handles all the shipping with no intermediary. I've received three packages from Amazon.fr in the past few months using expedited / Eclair shipping with no problem at all, I get them within 3-4 days in AZ.

Very well possible that information is getting distorted when transmitted from system to system. Hopefully it was the first and last time DB! :)

Just placed my order with them, will see how it goes. The emails were definately more friendly and responsive than boomerangshop.

Placed order with ethaid on Friday, was dispatched Monday and received Wednesday:D Overall very happy with this mob. Much happier than how was treated at boomerangshop:angry:

Here is how they pack

Everything was perfect except for a small wrapping tear on one slipcase.

Possibly OT but anyone have good solutions to getting rid of the security tags inside as they get in the way of the artwork. Hairdryer work for instance ?

The little white or black ones with the metallic strip underneath?

I've found them fairly easy to remove to date - take it slow is the key ;) - but if they prove troublesome have found that lifting it a bit and then leaving it a day helps as the glue then dries up a bit and removal is a little easier.

Either but all info appreciated.

MODS: Any chance of these relevant posts (ie the Q & A) being moved or added to the FAQ elsewhere ?

Reservoir Dogs and Fight Club arrived from Amazon.de today.

The RDs were fine and look REALLY nice in the flesh.

However, Fight Club has a small dent on the side (where the steelbook opens). I noticed that rather than being in the thicker plastic seal with the tear off strip they use for easy opening it was just in a cling film type shrink wrap. The FSK sticker was also on the OUTSIDE rather than inside the plastic wrap like ALL my other Germany steels.

Made me wonder if this was a return they'd re-sealed and sent back out? Anyone else have this concern or I am being unfair?

Either way, think I'll return Fight Club - anyone had much experience dealing with Amazon.de - they likely to want it sent back? (Thanks in advance for any thoughts) :)

*PLEASE MOVE IF THIS IS THE WRONG PLACE TO POST*

Anyone been through the returns process with Amazon.de before?

Do you HAVE to return the item to get a replacement/refund? Thought I'd read that some people had been told not to bother returning their steelbook if damaged....

Thanks in advance :)

hey buddy,
i think that depends on the shipping costs for the return and your location. amazon have to cover these costs of the return. so i live in germany and i'd to return each bluray i got from amazon.de before i got a refund or a replacement.

3 times a recieved a damaged bluray from amazon.ca they told me that i can keep the damaged copy.

i think this is a simple decision if the return including the costs is profitable or not.

but i dont know how amazon.de handles this with you guys in UK

Most times Amazon.de have asked me to return but they do pay standard postage. However on occassion they have sent out new disc. Had to send damaged (flattened) Metalpak back that only cost €1.95, cost me equivalent €4.50 to send it, still did though and was refunded. Principle of the thing.

Did you email customer services and ask what to do? The automated process online seems to assume you will send back..
