Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

Just seen news item on BBC that postal charges from Royal Mail are set to rise again with effect from 30th April 2012. So I checked website of Royal Mail and sure enough they are going up. If anyone wants a pdf then they can go here for a downloadable version.

What does this mean ? Well I send a normal Steelbook well padded in a box it usually works out as £5.37 ie under 400gm, under the new tariff same Steel will cost £6.76. This is an increase of nearly 26%. EEK!

This will have an effect though on all general trading which is why I've posted here. If this is not right please move.

this is some good information. Thanks.

Reminds me of Canada Post when they increased the costs to ship to the UK.

SteelBook? / Need Help

Hello,

Can someone tell me if this release is an SteelBook?

Coffret Olivier Marchal 3 Blu-ray : MR73 - 36 quai des orfèvres - Les Lyonnais [Blu-ray] (amazon.fr)

Release date: April 4, 2012

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Sergio Perez-More

Sergio,

I do not believe that is a steelbook.

Thanks for your reply. From the pic it does look like a SteelBook (G1 size). Just ordered from amazon.fr together with Blood Diamond and Heat Premium Collection Digibooks. This Olivier Marchal Blu-ray Pack is Region free with English subtitles for all the films (per amazon.fr)

Will see.

Regards,

Sergio Perez-More

Hmmm, it does kinda look like a Steelbook if you look at the spine in the big picture when you click on it. Guess we'll have to see-please report back if you receive it. If not, I am sure someone will be able to confirm eventually. Thanks and welcome to the site! :scat:

When I get it I'll report back to the forum.

Hey guys, I was thinking about ordering 2 steelbooks from Amazon.co.jp. Tell me your expierences with them when ordering steelbooks. Do they package well? How long does it take to arrive to USA? Would you reccomend? Thanks in advance.

Moved your thread to here ExCollector.

I ordered 4x steels from them just recently and it took 3 days for them to arrive.

They were shipped in typical amazon box, with shrink wrap on a cardboard bottom.

Some people have experienced problems with items being damaged. Overall they seem pretty solid.

Hope that answers your question.

Excollector-there is unfortunately always a risk of receiving damaged Steelbooks, due to the nature of the case. However, as mention Amazon JP is one of the sites that does pack a little more securely. But there are no guarantees...:)

Thank you for reply. If I order 2 would they arrive damaged? I hope not. And that is super fast shipping.

Like DB said, there are no guarantees BUT Amazon JP customer service is top notch if not the best of all online etailers. The 2-3 times, out of over a hundred purchases, that I received damaged items, I was sent replacements through the same expedited international shipping WITHOUT having to send back the items. I also took pictures of the damaged items and attached them to my email to Amazon JP customer service and they took care of the rest.

Digitalbabe, and Ash333- Thanks guys! Okay, I know I'll have the money April 13th to order 2 steels from Japan Amazon. I'm wanting to order both Batman Begins, and Dark Knight since they look insanely awesome. They won't be opened until I can have enough for a second copy of each. Can't wait till I get it :)

---------- Post added at 03:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:03 PM ----------

Second copy of each because I plan to open one for my collection, and keep one sealed for future reselling purposes or to just keep sealed. What do you guys do with your sealed copies? Do you sell them in couple of years? Or just not open them but keep?

And one more question, sorry guys for many questions. I've seen some people in YouTube videos that have these awesome small display stands to show off the blu rays? Where do I get them? Please let me know, as I would love to have a few.

Hey Ex-for stands you can purchase some via our site admin, member 'Wreck' or https://www.hidefninja.com/community/threads/14244/. Purchases help to support the site (# 1 for Steelbooks), and they are high quality.

As for sealed ones, I only buy movies I watch, but we have many collectors here who collect for different reasons. You'll find plenty of polls and threads to discuss in the main Steelbook forum (just browse through the various pages, and see the stickies at the top of the forum for important threads). Enjoy! :scat:

News write up on Amazon

The local newspaper has been running a very interesting series on Amazon and the warehouse operations was the focus of a piece published two days ago.

Amazon warehouse jobs push workers to physical limit

Perhaps after reading this article, we can get a better appreciation of the conditions and expectations of the Amazon workers who pick and package BRs, special editions, steelbooks, etc. here in the US and in other parts of the world.

Not sure if this is posted somewhere, but a little birdie tells me that there is going to be some steelbooks coming to AUS. One of which is an Iron Man.

No problem, Ex-enjoy the site!

By the way, why 'excollector...' did you quit once before? :)

Just saw this, and no.. Because I thought of Ex as in Exclusive in my Youtube channel, and it wouldn't fit the entire name into this forum, lol. Just wanted something different than "BluCollector".
Also, I'm completely new to steels. Local stores near me- I've never seen the steels that's why I wasn't familiar about them. I saw a video on YouTube and started collecting now :)
