Steelbook & Collecting FAQ's:

Q: Where can I find a list of Steelbooks released?

A: blu-raysteelbooks.com

Q: Can I play movies contained inside Steelbooks on my Blu-Ray Player?

A: It depends-Blu-Rays are coded with Region A, B or C. Most Blu-Rays are "unlocked", regardless of what region they are, but it's always a good idea to check this forum or web resources before buying, as some are "locked".

Q: What are the differences between Steelbooks™, Iron Packs™, Metal Paks™, Viva Metal Boxes, Tins, etc?

A: Check out pics and discussion in our forum here

Q: What does "G1" and "G2" mean when discussing Steelbooks?

A: "G1" (1st Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a DVD-sized case. And "G2" (2nd Generation) refers to a Blu-Ray in a Blu-Ray-sized case.

Q: How to fix a loose disc on a steelbook you want to keep factory sealed that came with a floater?

A: Fixing a loose disc

Q: How do I navigate international shopping sites?

A: You can download a free 'add on' for most browsers called 'Google Translate'. Once you have it installed, the pages will translate automatically.

Q: I have many more questions-is there a general list of links to help me learn about Steelbooks, protecting them, etc?

A: Yes, here

Why is ebay evil? its a great place to get steels and about the safest place to buy them from.

I don't really agree. I would much rather buy from forum members as you know when they say something is mint it will be. On the other hand I've bought Steelbooks from eBay which have been described as mint but actually as multiple dents :(

It's evil because there are people who are buying huge quantities of these, who have no interest apart from making a profit.

One seller had 25 copies of Iron Man when I had a browse yesterday.

Morally how many of these is it cool to buy? Ought a collector/trader be allowed to buy say 3 - one to keep and 2 to trade? I am a keen collector of films for over 25 years and my collection is vast. Are these strictly one purchase only (from a moral standpoint) or is it cool to get a couple more for future trades?

to me, it's like this

1-2 copies, is okay for collectors. sometimes i like to have one opened, one sealed. ALot of other collectors are the same.

3-4 copies, is understandable. the extra three can be used on trades to get steels that you may have missed out on. maybe 5 is pushing it a bit. :p

any more then 5 and you're being a bit of an dick. not giving people any chance of getting one for reasonable value.

obvious exceptions include purchasing copies for friends. etc

everyone will have their own ideas, of what's morally right. Me personally i never get more then 2, most times however I just get 1.

I think ordering just one is a bit silly because it's always possible to get a damaged Steelbook and you don't want to end up disappointed. I think three is a reasonable number, any more and you're probably pushing it a bit. As long as you keep it to yourself though, I don't think it really matters.

isnt there a thread for this sort of thing coz people complaining all the time over the same thing is getting boring. If i want to buy more then 5 copies of a steelbook it does not make me a "dick". When i first started collecting steelbooks there was many times where people were flaunting there large batch of sealed iron mans in front of me for marked up prices but now if we buy more then 5 in the uk were dicks lol?. Buy what you can afford to buy and lets stop crying about it.;)

I'm with deuce. This whole thing about "what's morally right" is ridiculous. We're all here because we collect steelbooks. I know some of us here seem to be made of money, but for those who aren't, using the information we all know, "steelbooks are valuable," we can sell or trade currently available & soon to be OOS steels for a long OOS steel we may not normally be able to afford.

If you can afford to buy 50 copies of Zombieland or Iron Man. Go for it. Get what you can, while you can.

Yep I agree I prefer forums more than ebay. I got a steel from ebay with a 'hidden' dent. Unfortunately I left postive feedback and didnt examine the steel properly. When I realised the dent the seller more or less blamed me for the dent. Unable to file a claim as passed 45 days date but escalated to ebays attention. Not sure they do much but they said they look into it. Will be naming and shaming this individual soon

It's totally down to you. For me, this is not a morality issue, but I that really is symantics as I know what you're saying.

You're not buying up all the food / fuel / power with the intention of making a profit to the detriment of others. These are luxury items and what people are willing to pay for them is their choice.

Play limit pre-orders to 5, I (personally) think it's a bit ****** when people set up multiple accounts to get around this limit.
