I just had another look at mine and noticed that the title ID4 Independence Day is actually gloss. Apart from that there's no other gloss. So I suppose they didn't really lie.

Mine arrived today and I'm okay with it. I've wanted ID4 as a steel for ages and I really like the choice of artwork, especially the back and inside. It's just a shame the finish makes it look so dull.

Just found this unboxing video. I think it looks pretty nice. Sure glossy and embossed would have been more exciting, but this looks as nice as many other matte steelbooks that cost just as much so after seeing the vid, I'm really not sure what all the fuss is about (except for the fact that Zavvi listed it as "glossy" even though it wasn't). It has really nice disc art and great interior art. I didn't order this one but I think I will now.

If cost was 10.99 like the Paramount Steels which mostly get a proper treatment then I wouldn't bother much. 14.99 is a bit too much keeping in mind we are paying the subsidy for low shipping cost to overseas.:(

Yes well I think I agree with you about the price differences from Play.com's 10.99 days.

What it boils down to is trading standards. You can't advertise a product as having a feature and then sell it without that feature. It's illegal to do so.

I bought this only because I thought it would look very nice with a gloss finish as Zavvi stated in the product description. I feel very disappointed to find out that in reality this steelbook has a plain Jane matte finish that is most definitely not worth the £14.99 I paid for it.

I hope that Wreck can shed some light on this because for such a big retailer to straight lie to their customers is pretty unforgivable. I know it's just a finish on a piece of metal but its more about the principal here guys.

If you don't like it, send it back and settle for the amaray

What the hell man!!!?

Zavvi f***ing played us all with this one!!! I want my god damn money back...

I'm really starting to wonder about how zavvi are being run because they are not even giving me my money back for a steelbook that I returned and I returned it as I should have, they really do make things as difficult and stressful as much as they possibly can, they certainly don't mind coning people out of money that's for sure.

Yes the pic doesn't do it a justice due to the fact that it does not have a gloss finish on the whole steel. However in this video, you can see that it has some sheen to it. I am definitely disappointed that this was advertised improperly (main reason I ordered) but I doubt Zavvi did it to purposely mislead us. They may not have gotten to correct info from the manufacturer or just don't know what a collectors standard of gloss is yet. I will cut them some slack as think they have been doing an excellent job giving the community steels releases we want but I do think they should address the misleading advertisement.

That being said, this is a decent steelbook. It doesnt "look like sh*t" and is not "the worst steel of the year". I know we are all entitled to our opinions but I think we all just post them too quickly off of initial reaction. I also think some are looking at it through angry eyes because we were mislead. But all in all, its an ok steel. Just not what we were expecting.

It's their business to know what these steelbooks look like before they sell them. They thought it was perfectly OK to send them out to us even though there is no gloss finish. They are still advertising it as a glossy steelbook on their site....

Whether or not they were misinformed or if they just chose to BS us about the finish on this one is irrelevant - they supplied a product that did not meet our expectations and what we were told, so as consumers we have every right to be angry/disappointed etc....we also have the right for a full refund if we so desire.

If we make enough noise maybe they will think twice about making such a massive balls up like this in the future.
