Opened mine last night. Nicer finish on this than what some have said in this thread. It's almost glossy. Not full gloss, but definitely a smooth laminate of some sort. Not scratchy matte like so many others. The title is definitely spot gloss. Artwork front and back sorta boring... a bit dark and there are better possibilities than what was chosen. Nice inside and disc art.

As for the movie... a big block of cheese. Pullman is one of the lamest movie Presidents ever.

I wish they'd gone ahead with the 3D version - that would have looked awesome :(

Independence Day 3D does not exist
There was plan a few years ago to convert to 3D but that was cancelled by fox

Its not a 3D Film anyway so there was no need to make it 3D
Fox cancelled the 3D conversion on this and other films that were originally made in 2D
Other Studios are also cancelling 2D to 3D conversion of Films

Only Films Shot in 3D using 3D Cameras should get a release in 3D
Some Films like Disney Pixar converted to 3D have been ok

Overall in my opinion 3D is on its way out and lot of film studios are cancelling conversions of 2D films to 3D Films

Even now New Films a Lot of them are not been made in 3D
You will still have Avatar films in 3D

It was the success of Avatar that started the film studios milking the system to make more money by doing 3D conversion of older films

Look back at the past 2 Years and have a look at the new Films due to be released this year and next year how many of them are in 3D

If a film was made in 2D and that's what was shown in the Cinema that's what we should be seeing on Blu-ray
3D conversion of 2D Films is a big no with me and should not be done

Independence Day is a 2D Film and his what your meant to be seeing

If a film is made in 3D that's fine but I do not agree with messing with previous films made in 2D

I do agree with Remastered film releases with improved video with better extras on older films so a new generation of film fans and older generation get to see the best version available
Its better to release the best 2D version of a 2D movie than mess with it

I would have agreed with 6 months ago, but now the best 3D film was shot only using 2D cameras. Gravity was converted to 3D in post-production and is an example of 3D dome right. It's not about gimmicks but whether it improves the film experience for viewers. Normally not, but Gravity 3D > Gravity 2D.

That is a really nice lenticular GT:thumbs:

I was so disappointed that this wasn't gloss that I ended up returning it without ever opening it. can't tell from the pics - is the title spot glossed then? love the movie I might pick it up now that it's only £8.95

I don't think there is any gloss on it at all. The worst thing is the disc. We need a special edition of this movie on Blu Ray NOW. This one is bare freakin bones.
