To be fair, there seems to be a lot of Kimchi bandwagon jumpers at the moment. This was generally seen to be one of the less anticipated releases along with Perfume, which should have been easy to order.

Now we'll probably get the usual people trying to make money off it.

I think this is true. Although the overall price and the fact its still a catalog title should make this more Amelie and The Pianist than Rush or Snowpiercer. At least I hope that's true. I can see the Kimchi "brand" expanding and it seems to get tougher every time.

...there seems to be a lot of Kimchi bandwagon jumpers at the moment.

At first, I resisted buying Asian Steels because I thought the big appeal was the foreign writing. For My first Kimchi steel, I picked up the Thor 2 Lenti. I realized at once, that the appeal for these Exclusives has NOTHING to do the fancy foreign letters.

I realized the APPEAL for these Exclusives is due to the Amazing packaging, quality, and thought put into every release.

I jumped on late for Thor 2 and got a copy from a ninja here.
But Ive since purchased directly from Kimchi:
*Leon
*The Pianist
*Rush
*Snowpiercer

I think I can say Im a Kimchi fan & customer, not a Kimchi bandwagon.

I have to agree with you. Just look at the poll results and you can see that it was 2 to 1 in favor of not buying this steel

Not sure if the poll is still valid though, I, for one, voted for not buying it, but then I changed my mind right after I saw the full slip artwork:emb::p

Does anyone in this thread realize just how awful the acting was in these movies? I understand it's difficult to evaluate acting when you don't understand the language, but Asian cinema is still decades behind Hollywood.

From the other site:

In 2003, Infernal Affairs won seven Hong Kong Film Awards, including Best Film, Best Director (Lau Wai-keung and Alan Mak), and Best Actor (Tony Leung). The film also won Film of Merit and Best Actor Awards at the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards.

In 2004, Infernal Affairs II won Hong Kong Film Award for Best Original Song (Beyond), and Best Film Award at the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards.

In 2004, Infernal Affairs III Film of Merit Award at the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards.

That's incredibly patronising, and plain wrong.

Presumably you're unfamiliar with the films of Kurosawa, Ozu, and Mizoguchi? Or do you think their work is held in such high esteem for it's sloppy direction and poor acting?

I'm mentally prepared for the bloodbath that is going to ensue when pre orders go live. I do not Mind at all. It's the Name of the Game with Kimchizzle. Some fellas get lucky, some don't. Some get lucky every time. Some make their own luck and pay big BUCK. I'm going for 2 lenti's and a full slip. Wish me luck.

If they Put an order limit on it, thats double the shipping for US. But, I respect that. Its totally cool. All good. All gucci baby. I will wake my girlfriend up at 3:30 am and get her into gear. My girlfriend is a skilled Kimchi Pre Order Warrior princess. She closed on Snowpiercer before I could! Crazy, I know. Ive created a monster.

We are a TEAM. We watch all our movies together. WE go steelbook hunting together. We hit store after store after store (BB, Target, Walmart, Barnes & Noble). My status as a collector is: Hardcore. She still Soft-Core :naughty:

I'm lucky, wat can I say?

Anyway, good luck to all!

Notice how those are HK awards. There's a saying in Chinese: "the world's #1 street sweeper is still a street sweeper." The problem, especially with Chinese cinema, is the talent farm system is still entrenched as a favors-based system, i.e. the casting couch for women and connections for men.

I also do think tons of the aforementioned Japanese-direction stuff is highly overrated without Japanophile-tinged glasses.

And you seem to think Hollywood is the be all and end all... When in fact Hollywood regularly borrows (steals) from foreign cinema and the only reason Hollywood films and actors are better known is marketing dollars.

One Direction are hugely well known due to the money spent on marketing them... It doesn't make them better

Everything is from a relative standpoint and Asian cinema "isn't even close" on a whole. And I said nothing about being better known. I'm talking about talent. Talent isn't nearly as important in Asia when the path to fame is for a starlet to be willing to be passed around from one provincial/cabinet level govt official or higher (or entertainment executive) to another as a commodity. You can look at Fan Bingbing as Exhibit A. I'm not blaming actors for that either, since it's a systemic problem that's not only endemic to entertainment.

Do you want me to list all the bad Hollywood films from the last year? 6 months? Month? Because there are some stinkers.

When Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan can make it into "blockbuster" films... It's a sorry affair
