Once one watched the original or the remake of a film first, watching the other one next will never be as good, in most cases, because one would have already known the story, the twists and turns, and the outcome. I think most people who had watched Departed first and loved it will find Infernal Affairs inferior when they watched it next.

What I find super interesting about this is how the two movies are actually completely different in style and tone. I love how audiences are divided depending on which one they watch first even though it's just two different approaches to the same source material. Infernal Affairs is slick, stylish, and somewhat cold, while The Departed is loud, hardboiled, and in-your-face. Everyone gives really subdued and understated performances in Infernal Affairs, but The Departed is populated by these larger than life characters; just compare Eric Tsang's original character with Nicholson's mob boss. Even the colour palette are opposites - Infernal Affairs is blue and green, The Departed is all warm with red and brown.

I'm an Infernal Affairs man myself. I find The Departed a bit too over-the-top and the swearing laid on too thick. Also the scenes in the departed which are taken directly from Infernal Affairs are just done better in the original; the worst one being when
Martin Sheen is thrown off the rooftop. In Infernal Affairs the death is sudden and surprising, but in The Departed it's overlong and you see the whole fall in slow motion and then they cut back and forth between the peoples' reactions and it's just yeah, yeah we get it.

I am not a fan of slipcovers on Steelbook (especially overpriced ones), and the 3 choices for artwork are not that appealing for me. But this should be my very first Kimchi Steel. The trilogy is too brilliant for me to pass.
And comparing Infernal Affairs to The Departed for me is like comparing Yojimbo to A Fistful Of Dollars. You love one, you love the other.

Infernal Affairs is up there with the cream of International cinema. It is better than awesome!!! Departed does a stand up job but for me, you cannot beat this original. The other two movies are fine but seeing the first film for the very first time is a real treat.

*DOES ANYONE KNOW THE ORDER LIMIT STATUS?

I loved The Departed, so I have high hopes for the original. Im going ALL OUT on this BLIND BUY, again.

Seeing all the poster's who say they like The Departed, so they "have high hopes for Infernal Affairs" hurts the very fiber of my soul =(

I didn't know I counted as Multiple poster's.

This is a blind buy for me. Maybe you dont get it. Scorsese is my favorite director. I LOVE The Departed. Nicholson and DiCaprio are my favorite actors, so yes, Im a fanatic of this film.

Im aware IA is the original. I assume Scorsese saw it and Loved it and decided to remake it. So, Im over the top about seeing this. I like foreign films, So, I HAVE HIGH HOPES FOR THIS!!!

Sorry to pierce the fibers ur very soul, buddy :hilarious:

I thought there is no order limit at all!?

Me too, That's why I was asking. For prints of 1000 Kimchi Exclusive, I cannot believe that.

Hey Im NOT super fond of order limits, personally, because Im a Double Dipper and that means more shipping costs for urs truly, and waking up my girlfriend up at 3am. But what's fair is fair. Order limits are there for good reason. So real collectors dont get screwed. Come, DRIVE & IM we gone' be a beggin' fo the order limits cuz

I've got a feeling this won't be that hard to order what you want, simply because it's a subtitled catalogue movie. Well I hope for everyone's sake I'm right, I'm only after one of the full slips myself :D

Good luck everyone, 4 hours to go!!!!!

Just saw that you are from London. So could you give me an idea of how much shipping to the UK might be. And how badly might I be hit at Customs?

K- packet is around $10 and EMS is about $30. You can avoid customs by marking the value down. Kimchi allow you to do this when you're ordering. I thought that was an excellent part of their ordering process
