This may be more popular outside of Asia than most people think. Martin Scorcese adapted this and turned it into The Departed, which was released worldwide.

Yes, I know it was adapted into The Departed. Most viewers of The Departed have no idea about this film though and have not seen it or it's sequels. (The Departed was huge outside of Asia but I'm really not sure these films were that popular -- these were more likely popular primarily with fans of foreign language films).
