Interest in Silent Films in SteelBook? Classics etc.

yes, we already have a few great silent films: trip to the moon, passion of jean arc, metropolis, wizard of oz, fall of the house of usher, nosferatu, dr mabuse der spieler etc.

i would like to add: the general, sherlock jr, the cameraman, the navigator, steamboat bill jr, the gold rush, city lights, modern times, the kid, the great dictator, the circus, intolerance, sunrise: a song of two humans, pandora's box, un chien andalou, battleship pontemkin, das kabinett des dr. caligari, man with a movie camera, the phantom of the opera, safety last, the last laugh, the mark of zorro, greed, the unknown, häxan, i was born but..., siegfried, kriemhilds rache, faust, the crowd, the big parade, the adventures of prince achmed, the artist and more but forgot right now.

its confusing that actually no one shows really interest in silent movies here while the existing/announced ones are highly sought after :dunno:

I love movies like these, shame there not on tv to often not like they were when i was a kid 30 years ago there was always old movies on TV on a saturday or sunday afternoon, now i have hundreds of channels and nothing to watch, as for steelbooks, No i would buy them, far to many of them to put on my shelf and black and white grainy movies on blu ray, i just dont see the point myself. I can think of better movies as we all can that would make great steels.

I'd love some silent film in steelbook, Wreck! As someone mentioned above, I'd leap at a chance to get a Metropolis steel (though if the majority were against this, I'd accept that decision), I'd also kill for a steel of Die Nibelungen. Any Lang would be awesome, actually.

To your more specific question, I'd also answer yes. A set of Chaplin steels would be something I'd be very interested in.

I don't tend to differentiate much between silent/talkies/blackandwhite/colour/aspect ratio etc. They offer different experiences but a great film is a great film as far as I'm concerned. Metropolis was one of my first steelbooks (luckily I got it just before all that stock was lost) and I also have The Passion of Joan of Arc with Mabuse and Nosferatu to come. As a classic horror fan I'd love to see steels for Caligari and/or The Golem.

I suppose the problem is that silent film is generally too much of a niche market for steelbooks. With distribution rights being different across territories it would perhaps take some collaboration between companies to share an order for the minimum 4000 steelbooks.

i like movies from all decades, but already have the essential chaplin films in my criterion collection... so i'd only buy if it's something that has not been released several times before.
