It is with pleasure that I can announce to you steelbook fans something that has been in the works for a while. From Scanavo comes Blu-ray Fr4me.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0090JB826/?tag=hidefnin-21

FR4ME™ presents a new generation of packaging. Scanavo’s FR4ME™ is a stylish, collectable and unique new way to package media.

It is Scanavo’s designers’ aim to add more collector value to media packaging and with it‘s stylish design and creative choices Fr4me™ does not disappoint!
Fr4me™ is the first packaging which gives Blu-rayTM owners the choice to customise their pack with their preferred choice of artwork. Fr4me™ can even stand, unaided, in a horizontal position like a real frame.

It’s stylish, minimalistic looks have presented a major attraction to film studio Universal Pictures, who have commissioned it for the UK release of their Sci-fi blockbuster OBLIVION, starring Tom Cruise.

Within its innate ability to house a range of artwork, Fr4me™ can accommodate media on a range of materials, for instance lenticular. There is a special physical closeness to the artwork for the owner as there is no plastic film covering. A multitude of creative options exist for film studios to make Fr4me™ ideal for any genre and title.

Fr4me™ comes in a wide range of standard colours and the durable ABS substrate from which the outer ‘frames’ are made adds an exclusive touch which further redefines Blu-rayTM packaging.

With Scanavo comes the natural reassurance of quality. Scanavo - the premium packaging specialists - have created something worthy of the quality of Blu-rayTM. In a still strong physical media market, Fr4me™ adds value back into packaging and is sure to kick-start a whole new community of collectors.

OBLIVION packed in Fr4me™ will be available at most major UK retailers.
More exciting options for Fr4me™ will be developed in the near future!

Fr4me™ is a patented media packaging by Scanavo. Heard first at Hi-def Ninja

Just out of interest, where does the extra art come from ?

- is it included ?
- is it downloadable from a website ? At extra cost ?
- if downloadable, will it be high quality for photo printers ?
- I'm guessing it won't be standard photo paper size, so trimming will need to be done

I suspect the included "art" will be reversible. Perhaps with extra cards.

From the photos on this thread will the art be behind plastic, hard to tell but it looks possibly not.

These are reminding me quite a lot of the dreaded Warners-beloved DVD Snapper cases. EEK! EEK!

I think I shall refer to it as SN4PPER. :D

Trying to seduce people who collect steel packaging and despise amarays with a plastic frame ?

I don't know ...

Also, why did they replace the A with a 4 ?

I think it will be reversible art cards also. There isn't any plastic, it was mentioned on the description of the packaging that the art will be uncovered.

I'm guessing its to make it more catchy!

The impression I get is that you will be able to swap the front, back, inside artwork around. If that's the case, it is pretty lame. Zero appeal here for me. If there's no Steelbook of a title I want, I will go for the amaray same as always.

Should have a video in up shortly...here's a few pics in the meantime.
F4rame is same height and width as standard amaray but thicker- 16mm approx.

Right it's a clear case with separate white frames, makes sense now, it would actually look better just as a clear case and with the artwork attached, still don't like them though and the lack of a spine is ridiculous.

What's the artwork made of - paper or card?

Thanks for the pictures. If this was made of metal, it may have been cool but the plastic just looks really cheap. The lack of a spine lets it down too. It's cool idea but they really should have asked for feedback before producing it, rather than 'announcing' it two months after the first title was made available for preorder.

It seems to be some type of plastic material- check out my video in a bit shows it better..

I think the designers got carried away with creating a bit of tupperware that looks like a plastic i-Pod or something and forgot about practicality. The lack of any identification on the spine is a baffling decision. My local HMV would have to completely refit their shop to accomodate the front-facing displays. Can't see it taking off for that reason alone.

Yes- definitely should have a spine...also being released in a standard amaray...as well as the steelbook of course.

Great video Dubliner, cheers mate

That is a stupidly fiddly and over-complicated way of having inter-changable artwork when the same can be done in seconds with a paper insert on a normal Amaray case like some of Arrow releases which come with several double sided printed inserts.

I also see those frames being broken as well

Thanks bud- the plastic is quite sturdy I'd say it's unlikely it would break. The biggest problem is the lack of spine info...a solution would be to also include a slipcover with these- now that would be cool!
Thanks for watching

I'm tempted to get one for Oblivion as a curio if nothing else, instead of the steelie. Mostly because I'm a contrary, nosey bastard. :D

Might do the same myself if it falls in price in line with the amaray.
No title on the spine won't be an issue it its the only fr4me cppy I own. ;)

Thanks for the video Dubliner1. Looks like this might suffer from some wear n' tear if the pictures are swapped often.

I struggled a bit in the video opening and closing the damn frame but I've done it a few more times since and it's a little easier now after a bit of practice. I think the clips loosen up a bit so it's not so tight. It does need some type of slipcover tho so you can have the title on the spine.
Thanks for watching!
