Zavvi are venomous snakes. Why do we need another Iron Man 1 Steelbook? After last year's releases I for one am bored of this title. They could have at least made it a little more interesting with a less common title, Iron Man 2 maybe?

I suppose on the plus side, at least it's a steelbook where there are alternative versions. Others can be picked up off Ebay, but you might end up paying more.

I can't blame Zavvi for trying this approach. As much as it might leave a bitter taste in the mouth for some collectors, it's their job to make money for the long-term stability of the business and naturally, their investors/shareholders. After all, that's what business is about.

It's a shame that Zavvi took over the steelbook market perhaps, but at the time Amazon showed no interest and HMV weren't in the position to do so. Even when HMV had them, their website wasn't up and running so it was group buys (handy, but more expensive) or going to your 'local' one (time consuming and expensive). Whether we like Zavvi's business practices (which I'm not keen on) or their customer service (which I'm even less keen on), or not, you can't deny the range of titles they get.

Compared to the amount of titles I've ordered from them, I've had very few issues (1 scratched, 1 dented and 1 not arrive I think), probably less issues I've had than with Amazon. The difference is, Amazon are easy to deal with, Zavvi... Less so.

Anyway, I'll be amazed if this steelbook doesn't end up available on its own later on. That said, I wouldn't risk it personally if I wanted it. The good thing for me is that I don't want it.

For those who started collecting after the Play.com days and didn't want to get the expensive Blufans releases

The Kimchi release wasn't expensive? I don't see how making a cheaper Steelbook is a reasonable argument in this situation. After all a Steelbook is a premium packaging solution.

Kimchi was cheaper yes but not £10.99 as per Play.com. Also there has only been one UK release of this 3 years ago, Zavvi have not released this title as a steelbook before. Given the popularity of the MCU movies I'm surprised it's taken Zavvi this long.

People complaining about it being iron man, I for one think the artwork looks cool. Judging by the mock up its gonna be a two disc set which is more than the play version was.

Look on the bright side, it's Iron man! Imagine if it was the first Hulk film and consider yourselves lucky.

Please don't verbally bash me... too much anyway :ohno::bag:;) I ordered this when it went live, in my mind I've worked out that this zbox will cost me £12.99 (otherwise I couldn't justify the extra price... 5% off code, steelbook £25,zbox £12.99 =£37.99). I ordered cos I want the steelbook and just in case it doesn't get sold separately I got my order in (I can always cancel before the payment is due) I've never bought a zbox before cos I like to know what I'm buying before I buy it.. and I'd prefer that no zbox was ever attached to a steelbook but I don't think zavvi care what we think and they will continue to do this in future regardless of us.. it's just another thing to add to the list of stuff zavvi does that sucks, and we need to keep in mind what they're like everytime we choose to deal with them, I know that I will go with any other retailer I can before I choose them but in some cases (like this one) they dictate the rules, it's their exclusive and so we play their game... or don't.. this time I'll play, but I think once those zboxes are paid for and shipped.. zavvi will suddenly find the remaining steelbook stock and sell it on it's own.. and I will kick myself:rofl: but right now I'm not taking the chance.
Zavvi have been taking a lot of hits lately with cancellations due to their uk exclusives being sold cheaper or in better packaging from other countries(I wish they'd learn from that ).. I think they're just going for the cash here.. so they'll win one this time but they'll lose the next. I wish that instead of finding underhand ways to get our money quick by giving us two options here , buy or don't buy, they should start looking at ways they can improve their steelbook business, they could negotiate with the film companies to secure better approved artwork designs ( I know people say zavvi are a retailer, they just sell the product, but companies like blufans go that extra mile, they design the steelbook then they get it approved) zavvi could do this too, then put a great finish on it and then ask a higher price for a better looking/made steelbook. . If they don't want to pay a designer the big bucks, all they have to do is come to hdn and see the awesome mock up's ninja's create.

I'm going on too much but there are so many valid points of view to what's going on with this steelbook, I can see all points of view and totally get it.. the one thing I don't is that zavvi should always allow people the choice of buying the steelbook and zbox separately because I don't think those two things have enough in common generally to be sold together.. with a slight exception of the Dredd steelbook with the zbox badge, but even with that they were sold separately and together which makes me think this will too.. I guess we can only wait and see.

On this steelbook alone, I actually really like the artwork back and front.. I just hope they do some nice embossing or debossing and throw a large can of gloss at it:happy:

I'm sure I read somewhere that you can have 1,000 runs but you have to commit to 4 of them.
That was actually about 2,000 print runs in the "Entertainment One (EOne) - SteelBook Poll - new products [UK]" thread (post since deleted):
eonedirect said:
To be honest, we haven't had much demand come through our retailers or public demanding the continuation on the Walking Dead Steelbooks. 1-3 were distributed via The Entertainment Store however, and not via eOne Direct, so hard for me to comment on dialogue between businesses. We are looking at it, but as I said approval proved hard on the first three. 2k runs are from China and a) very expensive to produce b) you have to commit to 4 titles and c) it takes longer to produce and deliver. This is a consideration we are assessing now. I am pushing these forward internally, but Lost In Translation is an easier conversation without approval conversations, and we have somewhat greater creative freedom.

Far from bashing you I applaud you for your even handed and considered post.

Does amuse me the amount of bashing on here about this, yet I'm the only person I can see that has even mentioned their unhappiness on Zavvi's Facebook page, and judging by Twitter too there has been little negative said to them apart from a handful of comments. Attacking companies on Social Networks where the public can read works a lot better than moaning on here which is more closed off.

I never understand this.. I always complain. People might of seen my comment here and there.

I usually tell them to listen to the community and point them to this forum.

I suggest people use the Facebook one because it's easier for people to see your comment and do the whole "share/like" thing, not to mention it's easier to view all messages in a convo. So come on guys whether it's this, an old horrible decision they've done or something in the future they'll end up doing COMPLAIN ABOUT IT on their Facebook status.

Don't forget to mention this site. They probably know but I still want them to get someone involved with us so we can tell them what we want. Helps them at the end of the day as we are more likely to buy something full price then wait untill it's went down in price as it's not selling well.

Problem is "bashing" also leads to the recipient of the criticism closing themselves off.

Not in the UK. Companies social sites are monitored by the trading associations and too many complaints leads to investigations. UK is very different from the US in its handling of retail companies. In the UK the customer is always right. Constructive criticism on mass here done publicly usually has positive results for customers.
