Frequently Asked Questions:

Q) What is the link to Kimchidvd?
A)Welcome to KIMCHI DVD
Q) I haven't mastered Korean yet - how can I read the site?!
A) Install Google translate on your browser:

Google Chrome HERE
Firefox HERE

Q) How do I register?
A) Turn on Google translate >> Login >> click on "If members to join ..." >> fill in EVERY box >>
click on this box to ensure your member ID is available:
rsz_button.jpg

You don't need to use Google Translate to register, provided you use the English registration link.
You need to enter both a Celluar phone (mobile) and Telephone number when registering/placing an order, however they can both be the same number (I don't have a home phone number, so always use my mobile number).
Numbers should be entered without a proceeding 0 and you do not need to enter your country code (KimchiDVD add it automatically to your parcel label).

So a UK phone (01452 123123) is specified like this:
Local Area Code : 1452 Phone Number : 123123

A UK mobile (07847 123123) is specified like this:
Local Area Code : 7847 Phone Number : 123123

If you have already registered, afterlogging in you can update your address/phone numbers here.

Q) Do they ship outside of Korea?
A) Yes, worldwide delivery, various shipping options available, for example to UK: (1 x steelbook)

K-Packet is tracked and one Steelbook to UK (with a weight of 450g - which is the typical weight for a lenticular) costs $10.81.
On average it takes around 7 days after dispatch to arrive in the UK - I always use K-Packet when placing orders and my orders have always arrived safely.

I'm not sure if it's insured or not (there's no mention) but assuming you pay via PayPal, their guarantee will cover you if you don't receive your order for some reason.

You can track your K-Packet order using this website, however tracking information isn't always accurate after leaving Korea (e.g. sometimes it doesn't update again before it's delivered, or even after if your postman doesn't bother getting a signature).

EMS $21.80 (Tracked, replacement will be issued where possible if lost)
TNT Premium $37.80 (Tracked, replacement will be issued where possible if lost)

Q) What form of packing do they use?
A) Cardboard Box, with enough bubblewrap to keep things safe, see below: (Thanks to SBC28 for pics)

A pretty sturdy box, which seemingly took some damage during shipping.
(These are pretty much always the same boxes.)

Enough space for the item to "breathe", but snug enough to stop it from moving.
(That white thing is the invoice, which i choose to include, since i am in the USA.)
kimchipackaging02.jpg

6 layers of bubble wrap.

Another shot of the bubble wrap, one sheet (4 layers) removed.

One minty mint SB, all the way from Korea.

Q) Is the retailer custom's friendly? (i.e will they mark as gift, or low value).
A) Very friendly, you have various options to choose from:
rsz_customs-kimchi.jpg

Q) Will the retailer charges upon order or upon shipment
A) You will be charged upon order

Q) What payment do they accept?
A) Card or Paypal

Q) Customer Services any good?
A) Yes - overall a very good, reliable site to order from.

Cancellations: Send an email to [email protected], including the number of the order you wish to cancel. He'll get back to you as soon as he can.

Replacements: are issued if in stock, if not a refund will be offered.
Refunds: They are normally processed within a few days.

If they sort their servers out and that's a big IF.....Then they also need to fix their cart system!! Once you put your order in your cart it should stay there for 15mins at least.....;)
There's nothing more annoying than having the item in your cart only to find out when you eventually get to check out....."POOF" it's gone.......:hilarious:

a bit derailed maybe, but for myself I had to make the decision not to buy every release and every version. This goes for both Blufans and Kimchidvd.

Its like in a candystore...I have to select, if I buy one each of everything its gonna hurt! :)
Even if I do have the money I just cant justify buying multiple of the same film.

did this a few years ago when I got into collecting rare DVD's-left me with an overdraft,a loan & 2 credit cards-so I have to pick & choose-was gong to buy the Prisoners German steelbook for instance but realised I will probably watch it once and then sell-so an amaray will do. Anchorman 2 EX steelbook I have watched 5 times since purchase-that is the difference between buying everything & being more choosey...there will be copies of the lenti floating around-either I buy one or trade up with something else-thats the nature of the business...

It's a dangerous game they play like shooting the golden goose...
Many collectors of Kimchi on this site are completists, they want every release whether they may be really interested in the title or not
With so many releases once people skip one as they simply can't afford it, then the thread is broken - It will be easier and easier for them to skip further releases in the future and Kimchi lose the core of collectors

I have all slips, tripack, box set from all kimchidvd releases at the moment including pre orders, if kimchi starts releasing more so i cant keep up on a monthy basis then i would slim down my collection for sure, i have a few kimchi steels i only bought because i wanted all slips. I would prefer kimchi to do higher print runs than more releases a month. If kimchi release 2 or 3 exclusives a month with 2 or 3 slips for each then it will save me money as i will spend less on kimchi steels and just get the odd steel from them.

That's the choice they made if they cant afford it that's unfortunate. I cant believe the number of people who are completest would affect sales much at all if they missed one and quit collecting them all. I get their side of it but I'm not a completest so I could care less how many releases there is. As long as they keep this level of quality they can put one out every week for all I care. I will buy the ones that appeal to me. That's my opinion.

I find it quite farcical that after the ridiculous difficulty in ordering this some people still don't know whether their order has been successful even after 3 days. If this was any other retailer there would be a lynch mob baying for blood. But because this is kimchi there will be a long line of apologists on this forum with feeble excuses why people are still waiting! This is poor service plain and simple.:(:(

Still no reply from them. :(

Trust me it takes time. I've been thru this with Rush and it took about 5 days to get a response from them. If you've paid thru credit card you might have to go thru Paypal for them to receive payment. But I would wait for there response if you already sent an email.

Why should people have to go through that?

You've been spoiled by Zaavi's impeccable service and ease of trouble free ordering! :p

Beyond the servers, which are obviously an issue, the other major problem is people have realized you can make a buck flipping Kimchi releases. Which invites a whole new set of people buying these solely to re-sell them. That's a big kick in the teeth to anyone who wants one and misses out. Call it the Mondo effect. Even if the servers get fixed, there's no real good way around that unless there's some sort of VIP/Membership program. Of course I know some don't want that either. But seems easier than rolling the dice every time a new release comes up.

I was thinking the exact same thing the other day. I think a VIP system should be introduced for sure. VIPs get a 24/48hr PO window before general release. That's got to be a good way forward in ensuring the true fans get the exclusives without paying inflated prices on the secondary market.

Has this been mentioned to Choi?

Yeah a VIP system might be good, but what price would you put on it and would you really be happy with a service that only guarantees what you would probably get anyways. I think if they priced it well and gave you a 10/15% discount on the price and/or discount on shipping too then it would be a better service, hypothetically...
