I don't want to keep on about this issue but the comments above seem to have missed the point that the Manta Website states regarding their steelbook:
Quote: "WEA, Exclusive Steelcase designed by Manta Lab", Not 'designed by Fox', but designed by Manta Lab, therefore Manta Lab is the only company that can pass it over to HMV or any other retailer, effectively making it a 'Non World Exclusive Art' product.

You are in full denial mate. The artwork was already used in the FAC Full Slip. Do you think ML owns the artwork and they approved it to be used on the FAC Full Slip which I think was released even before ML came into existence?

Even if ML designed it magically, FOX still owns it as it is their IP.

I think a lot of people are forgetting the casual steelbook fans. Those who don't frequently attend a very niche forum.

There's a bunch of relaxed movie fans who'll pick up the HMV edition in store without any knowledge of the Manta ever existing or perhaps barely what a steelbook is.

Fox own the rights
All the artwork is property of Fox

Manta are a retailer their exclusive of this release was for Hong Kong market

Fox and other film studios can decide to re-release any products they own the rights to be it a steelbook or any other packaging with exact same artwork if they wish to do so in another country

It don't matter if Manta was involved in doing any of the artwork design
The Artwork remains property of Fox and can use this same artwork if they want

UK and Hong Kong different countries and different retailers

Manta would have only had exclusive time period retailer rights for Hong Kong
Time period exclusive can be for limited period to long period

Even if they had exclusive for 1 year or longer that only applies to Hong Kong market.

Fox and other film studios can release their products in other countries same time or different times and all artwork belongs to the film studio

the bottom line is, there is no such thing as world exclusive art for a retailer when they dont own the intellectual property. They may get a studio to agree to give them that art for their territory, but most often that is not even in written word People dont like the liability, and that is why you see it rehashed and said retailer doesnt even care 3 years later to see another use the art as he is done with the title for those sales at release etc.

Studios do not want to have to go back and ask talent and thats why you see so much minimal art and pop art in the world today. Half a face, back turned to you, shadowed, or no likeness. Cause the studio owns the IP, not Brad Pitt. And for liability concerns they just avoid the real work of waiting for clearances and such. And some actors are so busy it just wont ever happen. An actor cant be bothered to keep approving art of them every month for old stuff. This is why the studios pimp Anniversary editions tho, cause besides it being cool and a chance to sometimes bringing new content but often you can get the actors attention again when its an anniversary. 10th, 25th etc. That is the time to strike and get new content and as much stuff out there as it keeps the wheelhouse turning for the brand for the years 11-X etc. to sell licensing of toys, merch, etc.

Comprende?
Then isnt it easier for studios to get art from the likes of Mondo, Bottleneck, etc?

I only wanted the ML steelbook, but they made the 1/4 slip exclusive to boxset so i didnt buy any editions.
If this turns out to be embossed and/or glossed then great; but even if it turned out to be matte, i'd still buy it for that price and custom gloss it :D

I expect this will sell well
Not everyone imports steelbook or even standard releases from abroad.

Yes most of us here at HDN and some other Web forums know about Manta Labs but there will be a lot outside of Web forums and social media who no nothing about Manta labs

This is a beautiful steelbook and great release to introduce someone new to steelbooks and fantastic price for those that missed out on the Manta labs release

I would take a guess HMV will get exclusive for part 2 film as a steelbook

Looking forward to seeing whose steelbook design they rip off for part 2?

Probably, but that's been discussed and the distributors can legally do this. It means buyers can have a choice to pay a much cheaper price for a steel instead of all the fancy slips if Manta or other premium retailers will release this.

Not everyone wants to buy premium steels.

Film Studio do the artwork and only approve artwork they will allow be used
Any suggested artwork is rejected if they don't already own the image that a retailer liked to be used
Sometimes the film studio will pay an artist to design some artwork that's new and they take ownership of that artwork

Most steelbooks artwork all the design is done by Film Studio with some releases suggestions either accepted or rejected

Film Arena already used the exact same artwork on the Full Slip before Manta did a whole year before Manta Labs even started selling steelbooks

If anyone did any coping of artwork it was Manta Labs that did that and was approved by the film studio simply because it was already the film studio artwork that could be used

My guess is Hmv will get the exclusive for golden circle in the UK and manta (hopefully) will do a WEA to match the first..... At least that way Manta will
Come after the Hmv release and can use different art lol

Yes, and why indeed should they care if it's been released elsewhere previously as it's the FIRST TIME available and purchasable from a U.K. retailer.

As I and others have already mentioned Manta Lab does not own the artwork upon which the designs for this steelbook are based.
. . . and as for the designs these are clearly taken from original elements and not cooked up in the ML back room . . .

What is clear though is that the poster design used on the front of the steelbook has been tweaked with different positioning and sizing of a few of the characters but left exactly as is on the fullslip.

As for the inside artwork of Dunhill and IMCO '60s and '70s fuel and gas lighters lighters that's just probably taken directly from the film.

Anyway RE: ARTWORK - Poster vs. Fullslip vs. Steelbook:-

It's all in interpreting the wording...Taken from ML product description

- WEA, Exclusive Steelcase designed by Manta Lab features "Full Glossy" Finish and "Embossed Title"

WEA, -
Not true BUT Exclusive Steelcase designed by Manta Lab - Is true, I believe

I would have worded it

- Unique Steelbook Artwork. Exclusive Steelcase designed by Manta Lab features "Full Glossy" Finish and "Embossed Title"
