Watched Blair Witch last weekend. I thought it was a good follow-up (sooooo much better than Book of Shadows) with a great score by Adam Wingard. Interesting that they
showed the actual witch several times. Even more interesting that they kind of based her look on the original toy from McFarlane Toys. I thought she looked very creepy, but it made the film not as creepy as the original. Sometimes seeing more doesn't mean scarier.

Here's a look at the figures from McFarlane:

If you look at the original sculpt of the figure on the right, though, you can really see the similarities to the witch used in the new film:

I have The Conjuring 2 in my queue for this weekend. We'll see how that turns out.

Anyone that can recommend on good movies which are actually are suspenful and scary, but not ugly and gore?

Can seem to find a thread for the new horror thriller "Get Out"

It looks ridiculously good

Have a feeling I'm going to love it

@tridon you heard of this or seen a trailer yet?

Just back from seeing it & can confirm - its ridiculously good. One of the years best in my opinion.
And, surprisingly, the theater was packed for the showing I was at. Horror usually doesn't do so well in my city so it was good to see such a turnout.

Good to hear (there have been some good ones over the past few years - the little indie ones too like it follows, don't breathe, green room, as above so below etc)

None of my mates really like horror but most are up for this, maybe because it's a psychological thriller and dark comedy too and not a straight up slasher or ghost film.
In fact I only heard about this a few weeks ago and from 2 mates who genuinely hate the genre unless made well (a bit like green room) but they showed me the trailer and i love the way the trailer was cut with the sounds and hypnosis. Instantly said yep this looks like a bit of me

I personally love head **** films (psychological thrillers/ horrors etc) and mysteries or where a whole town is involved kind of thing and I got that impression from the trailer

Might even go to the cinema for this one

Have a feeling this will be my new it follows

I watched that XX film the other day and found it so sh*t. I found holidays much better actually. Well the Easter short was better than anything in XX (would love to see a full feature of Easter - something Neverending story about it but creepier and the bunny voice was classic but gave me shivers lol).
Only good moment in XX was a particular scene in "the box" segment. And that was like 10 seconds lol

Late as heck reply to this but just wanted to share in case you hadn't come across this yet.

That wasn't the witch. In the article I've posted below there's speculation that maybe it was Heather from the original who's just been tortured by the witch for the last 20 years. I've yet to listen to the commentary track on it so I'm not sure exactly what they discuss but Simon Barrett has been pretty adamant that that wasn't the actual witch in the movie.

Last horror movie watched for me was House 4, which was ok, mediocre at best.
Last bought was Scream 1 - 3, Bone Tomahawk, House collection & Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil.

Hmm, that's very interesting. If that's the case, though, I hope we receive a little more explanation in a future film. I see that Barrett wants to leave some things mysterious, but after three films, I'd like to see more answers officially revealed.

And nice purchases! I love Tucker & Dale. Hopefully a sequel happens one day.

Tucker and Dale is a great horror spoof. Funny as hell.

I watched The Void last night. Very cool practical effects that brought me back to the horror of the '80s, but other than that, it was pretty mediocre. The acting was awful to mediocre and the story was all over the place. I actually questioned whether the writers took acid halfway through the screenplay because it had such a promising start, but then just went ape$hit crazy. Worth watching once for the practical effects, though. That special effects team deserves a round of applause!

Nice thread. I'm a huge horror fan, last horror movie i've seen (re-watched) was 'The Toxic Avenger' 1984. The movie is so bad, that it's actually good. Fun 80's flick with great satire. I also dig the OST "Body Talk".

Well said. My thoughts exactly. It started interesting but unfortunately it went downhill pretty quickly. The best thing about the movie are the practical effects. I have nothing but huge respect for the team who put so much effort into their practical effects. It reminded me strongly to 'The Thing'. If you like 80's horror, i recommend 'The Void', it's worth for its effects alone. A bummer the plot and acting didn't deliver as i wanted them to be.
