I would honestly love to be scared by horror like it does the general public but I’m just not built that way. I just simply enjoy horror… maybe a bit too much

Those reaction trailers from American audiences back in the day has always made brits laugh (can’t say what they were like for other countries) however that trailer with Maikas actual heartbeat is genius. The marketing for this film has been spot on and I’m most excited for this and probably alien Romulus than anything else this year

There are scenes in Perkins' previous films that have genuinely terrified and unnerved me so I'm not ruling out anything for Longlegs!

The Blackcoat's Daughter/February is one of my favourite horrors of all time.

Just saw this and was pleasantly surprised.
Genuinely unnerving and Cage once seen in the film is not forgotten, he is definitely going to be giving me nightmares tonight. The interrogation scene / end jump alone.
All the cast were very good especially Alicia Witt who usually doesn’t do horror and I initially didn’t even recognise her.
A treat and the cinema was packed !

I was still thinking about the movie 24 hours later. I enjoyed it, and as I was watching it, other movies such as The Shining came to mind. Had a level of Kubrick directing talent, which is a great compliment to seeing my first Perkins movie. Must now check out other works by Perkins.

If you are a fan of the genre, go see this at the cinema if you can.

Saw this yesterday, Cages performance was unnerving and the film on a whole was equally so throughout. I got some Silence of The Lambs vibes but this is definitely it's own beast. Not particularly a huge fan of horror outside of the classics... however I think this has all the makings to go down as one. Hoping it does well in the UK so we get the 4k!

Also, is there a name for Nic Cages renaissance yet? Had some really great films from multiple genres of late. As a huge fan of his 90s work, it's great to see!

Based on suggestions to see it on the big screen, will go see it coming Tuesday.
It's certainly got style and atmosphere not sure about substance. Lots of dark humour that I wasn't expecting. Almost edging on the parody if I'm honest. To coin a sports metaphor, Nic Cage goes long...very long, on the performance, not sure if he holes it or not.

Finally watched it last night. I really enjoyed it, it’s atmospheric and creepy at times, it’s shot amazingly with the still scenes and scenery and I love the aspect changes for the past. Music was great. Cage was absolutely phenomenal and f**king eerie. Actually quite unsettling. But not sure on that final act. Parts of the final act I loved and other parts not so sure on. But then if you’ve seen Oz’s other films like the blackcoats daughter then it makes sense he’d go there. Still a strong film and happy to own it when the steel releases

I’ve had good luck with all the films I’ve really wanted to see and looking forward to this year turning out great and I thought this was the one where the hype was going to be too big and ultimately fail but yeah still massively enjoyed it. Defo up there with Poor things, Dune 2, Alien Romulus, Deadpool & Wolverine, Civil war, Furiosa, The First Omen and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes for me and still got Beetlejuice 2 and Joker 2 to look forward to

Watched it again and much prefer the final act now. Plus you notice so much more on a second watch. Some great layering and details hidden in the backgrounds etc. Kinda like Hereditary

A very intriguing ad campaign has built this film up to more, than it actually is, which is an average Outer Limits or Twilight Zone episode.
It's interesting to watch, but the forensics and investigative side of the story falls apart due to contradicting ending revelations, and overall I guess high expectations played against it.

I am unsure how the ending contradicts the whole story, because...
The devil appears throughout the story (like 8 times or more), noticeable in specific scenes for a mere second or two.

No one saw, at any of the houses, a woman coming, and especially going, all covered in blood, with a big box?
Splatter patterns on furniture and walls inside obstructed by her body, sitting or standing there watching, would've been immediately obvious to any CSI person.
What about the puke in the driveway?

It seems to have been done for added 'shock value' without thinking, for brainwashed by 'modern' streaming content and Marvel cartoons audiences, that might find it 'fresh and unusual', if they haven't ever watched any older mystery or crime series.

I see what you are saying. As for me though, it just was a different take overall, as this film to me was never a crime-solving three acts presentation, it was a supernatural tale unfolding, the crimes were the mystery, and how they were ultimately conducted as the key suspects were always the father, regardless of what oddities would have been found in any CSI reality. Yes, it was akin to a Tales from the Crypt episode, but I expected nothing else.

Interesting...
Also, did anyone find the 15+ appearances of the devil? I managed to find 14 after god knows how many viewings and online research...
Not sure if I’ve seen them all but noticed a few on the first watch and then more on the second

What mad is I didn’t notice any in the haunting of hill house on the first watch. Then read the ghosts are always scattered and then couldn’t stop seeing them on the second watch. Which prepared me for Bly Mannor

Love the movie and still find myself trying to find the last 1 or 2 appearances to bring my total up to the 15+ amount. There's one appearance in particular that I now find so obvious (didn't at first) that I suspect a lot of viewers don't account for...

Wasn’t expecting this

Wow hugely surprising. I haven't rewatched this since the cinema but will be sure to soon. I only noticed 1 devil appearance the first time around

I really hope Oz can find the same formula or even add something new. It'll be really hard to recreate how eerily intriguing & suspenseful this was. It will also be interesting to see who gets cast in it too.
