Word of caution from an UK HDN Member about HMV (thanks VRob98)

HMV now in administration said:
People should just be aware of 2 things:

1) If you receive a damaged or faulty copy from now on, you will not receive a replacement or refund

2) If they charge your card and are then unable to fulfil your order, you will not be refunded.

The way a company operates whilst under administration is quite different to how it operates normally, and certain consumer rights are suspended. If anything goes wrong you would have to apply to the administrator or claim against your credit card issuer.

I'd encourage everyone who has orders in with HMV to consider the above, as I'd hate to see anyone here lose their money in all of this.

Available to pre-order right now.
Release date: January 28, 2013

Excellent news!

I'll be keeping my order with HMV...I'm sure they'd appreciate everyone else doing the same, as every little helps

It doesn't make much difference to HMV now that the company is under administration. HMV is effectively gone as a corporate entity, and any revenue coming in will simply be used to pay off secured creditors.

You also won't get any refunds or replacements from HMV should your items turn up damaged or get lost in the post. You'd have to apply to the administrator or claim directly from your credit card company. Something to bear in mind from now on... :ugh:

Anybody thinking of keeping your orders or placing new orders with HMV should read this, which explains your rights pretty well:

Pretty grim situation all round, for staff, creditors and customers. :(

All of a sudden HMV don't seem such rip-offs after all. I thought £18 was bad, but asking £21 for a steelbook is disgusting!

So the money saving article says that unfulfilled orders will probably not be fulfilled
so there goes that one cancelled.
time to look at that amazon.fr on and compare to shipping with .co.uk
either way my price was similar to hmv...
Good luck

I take it this means HMV wont be getting it at all then now?

HMV are still being allowed to trade for now, but realistically it depends on how much of the run is paid for and how much HMV owe the distributor. If the distributor isn't going to be paid, then they'll just sell the stock elsewhere (albeit at a higher dealer price to try and recoup some of the debt).

I think you'll find that the high Amazon price is not due to them profiteering but rather because the thing is just very expensive for them to buy. Everyone involved in this insolvency is in damage control mode right now, and keen to recover what monies they can.

It could be that if no one else takes the stock at the high dealer prices it could eventually be dumped and become available everywhere at knockdown prices. Very tough to predict at this point. :dunno:

So after a quick calculation
both the hmv/amazon copy plus shipping works out to exactly the same price as the amazon.fr one
so i am going for the lenticular .. since the original price of the HMV one was partly why i chose it in the first place ..it was the cheapest

It's a worrying time for us steelbook fans. Less competition from the likes of play.com and hmv will mean more expensive potentially lazy steelbooks in the future imho! I want to cry! :(

I admit it's annoying, it is mainly on HMV and play.com I ordered most often.
We'll have to spend more money in the future and there will be less exclusivity unfortunately :(
