Word of caution from an UK HDN Member about HMV (thanks VRob98)

People should just be aware of 2 things:

1) If you receive a damaged or faulty copy from now on, you will not receive a replacement or refund

2) If they charge your card and are then unable to fulfil your order, you will not be refunded.

The way a company operates whilst under administration is quite different to how it operates normally, and certain consumer rights are suspended. If anything goes wrong you would have to apply to the administrator or claim against your credit card issuer.

I'd encourage everyone who has orders in with HMV to consider the above, as I'd hate to see anyone here lose their money in all of this.

The fastest time I ever received an item from amazon when I lived on the UK was 5 days on standard. I ordered a game once using Next Day and it arrived after 3. From then on I only used amazon when I didn't care about timing which is rare.

Yeh same ordered a game next day took 3 days aswell but got my delivery charge refunded which was good, so i wasn't to annoyed.

Ah, remember the days when we used to moan that we wouldn't receive releases from HMV until release date, not the Saturday before like play.com. I think I'll be lucky if my Amazon order will be dispatched before release date.

No, there's no way to cancel individual orders now. Though many members here - including myself- have been assured by the administration team that all pre-orders have been automatically cancelled.

All HMV pre-orders have been cancelled. Nothing will be sent and no-one will be charged

What will happen if you reverse the direct debit from your creditcard after you received a damaged copy? I doubt of a company under administration would then be able to file a claim via your bank afterwards...

I don't think it's possible to just "reverse" a charge paid via credit/debit card. You can always call your back and tell them you received a damaged copy from a company who is now in Administration.

You would be able to claim through the chargeback scheme operated by the credit card company, which recovers the funds from the seller's bank rather than the seller itself.

You won't be receiving any copies from HMV though, damaged or otherwise, as they won't be processing any pre-orders or getting any stock.
