I'm at Walmart right now and they have a magnetic pre order card with what looks like a steel on the back cover and front.
Promotion page indicates the pre-order is IN-STORE ONLY.

I spoke to a rep today from the VUDU/Wal Mart fulfillment center about this preorder. She told me that there are three different preorders.

1. The $26 preorder that came out in June with the lenticular magnet - she said this one will only come with the Amaray

2. The STEELBOOK preorder that is on the Wal-mart website now

3. A more recent, $30 preorder that references a steelbook on the preorder packaging - she said this is an in-store promo.

I hope this isn't true, or I am DEFINITELY done buying Walmart preorders

Glad I returned that magnet then.

In all fairness, the preorder magnet didn't say anything about a steelbook, so everyone who bought one bought at their own risk. I'm just going to exchange my preorder for a steelbook.

i agree with darc. It was assumed that it would be a steelbook, there was no confirmation, just mostly hope.

So bashing Walmart/VUDU for not going with a SB is unfair. I'm going to exchange my order as well

sorry but I gotta say... that's not exactly "fair" to the blu ray buyers. Walmart plays the steelbook game as much as any US retailer. They know how it works. For them to put out a lenticular magnet card and indicate "exclusive packaging" and then make a separate and unrelated preorder for their steelbook is, in a word, unbelieveable.

It's ok though, when they get a massive influx of returns from the magnet buyers, they will never do it like this again.

Exclusive packaging can mean an exclusive cover and the magnet can be and was an incentive to pre-order the movie through them. It's not their fault for us to assume what we may get. To be honest they didn't indicate any where that it might be a SB. However, all WMart steelbooks have been non-embossed/non-debossed, so IMO they tend to be the weakest SB release when compared to all the markets. So if that's some consolation....

Besides who else is offering the magnetic pad? It is pretty cool.

Folks, very possible the magnet fits the Steelbook well...so if you want a Lenticular/Steelbook type combo, you would get the regular Amaray they send you and exchange it in store for the Steelbook. Or order the Steelbook online, and when the Amaray comes take it to the store for a refund...if you wish to keep the magnet. These 'variations' of versions have caused confusion with many retailers in the past, not just WM.

Hey RJ-originally, for the Steelbook listing there was only a place holder. For the regular 'Amaray' edition, that seemed to have been referenced in the pre-order info, they used the red/gold 'S' artwork. But lets see how the Steelbook cover ends up looking once released...

The VUDU rep told me that there is TWO in-store preorders for this release, and one ONLINE preorder. she said that there is the preorder that began in June, which is NOT for a steelbook, and a recent preorder which DOES provide a steelbook.

Has anyone seen a preorder IN-STORE that specifically references a steelbook?

Yep that Vudu rep is full of *insert random word here*.

The only one that I have seen is the magnet. Now that doesn't mean closer to release time there won't be another one. But as of right now it is just that one preorder card.

Maybe the rep meant you can pre-order the Steelbook in store or pre-order and 'ship to store', via the sku, just is not advertised separately in store? No idea...but the multiple versions and processes in place at some of the retailers is definitely gray-causes a lot of confusion for consumer...(but also a bunch of buzz for them...)
