Seem to remember it being piss poor, a lot of people don't remember that a great many of these so called video nasties classics from the 80's were actually crap, this being one, I'm torn between keeping my order as arrow do put a lot of effort into their releases and just cancelling it

I agree with this. Some of Fulci's work is also questionable in terms of quality, which mostly consists of just cheap gore and bad acting. Demons also falls into the category of so-called horror films being regarded as classics because they were made in the 80's. Arrow are superb with their releases, they're even able to bring out some life to the films they remaster and make a turd look well, less of a turd. That said, this one isn't as bad, it's cliché and very over-the-top, but what do you expect from a film called Maniac Cop? ;)

Very true, as much as I would love a full uncut steelbook of The New York Ripper I'm under no illusion that it's a great film, It's just part of my childhood. A lot of these late 70's to mid 80's slashers were basically pants, they continue to be popular for certain generations and fans. Show a 15 year old any of these today and they would laugh in your face. The movies we have now are far nastier than the original nasties lol

[POSSIBLE SPOILER]

I think main problem that Maniac Cop suffers from is a pace of the film...it is verrrry boring in some moments. When i watched it as a kid, i was dissapointed that Cordels origins was so short in the movie. I think it was better to cut some police dialogues in order to make propper story of Cordel. How extreme cop he was, how he was framed, how prisoners slashed him etc. As far as i remember we only have Robert's naked butt and some knifes with fake blood.
The same is with the ending. We see Cordel for some brief moments as Maniac Cop, ususaly with the same futage over and over again.

I have US BD and there are some delited scenes from Japan TV. I was not going to buy from zavvi this one...but i was on the site, just wondering...and button was presed by some evil force :scat: Ordered;)

I love the movie, was fortunate was to watch it on the big screen a couple of years back at the Prince Charles Cinema in London. Still need to sit down and watch my US BDs of Maniac Cop 2 and 3
