I see in the OP it says 'currently OOS'.

Has this been confirmed by Zavvi?

Seriously? After like 3 days?? Must've been the fastest sell-out ever.

It has been confirmed from Zavvi as a title they're going to have.

I wouldn't believe the hype about a sell out, you gotta remember that no one besides them listed this for sale yet - it's all about getting people to order now, when there is less competition for your money as a consumer.

+1

I am sure this will come back in stock. Will place my order then. Just watched the film in theatres and its very good. Easily the best animated film i've seen this year.... on my list next: TURBO!! :d

I had this on order and then cancelled and although its unlikely, if this is completly sold out and becomes a must have like aladdin. I'm going to be gutted

I'd say the bolded bit is debatable, based on the fact that every Disney release from Zavvi so far has been at a different price point (from £14.99 to £16.99, then £17.99, then £22.99 and now £23.99).

Not to mention the fact that Zavvi initially sold Aladdin at £17.99 but then hiked the price on their own site and their ebay outlet store just before and after release.

I suspect Disney do have some say, as their releases tend to be a touch more expensive than regular films, but I'd also say that Zavvi could (and have) charge less. Plus, in terms of extras they are already out there (as you can get 3D etc in amaray form) so it would probably be down to Zavvi to decide whether to put those extras into a steelbook. That would probably cost them more (in terms of production) so that's probably why it hasn't happened.

Assuming Disney are the ones forcing Zavvi to charge what they do or skimp on features (when identical steels turn up in Europe with 3D, extras and so on) seems to be speculation. Still it's supply and demand, so as long as people are happy to pay a lot for bare bones Disney steels then Zavvi can keep producing just that. It's really that simple.

Tesco can get away with telling small suppliers how much they are prepared to pay for their products but, even with their ever extending tentacles, I can't see The Hut Group having the leverage to dictate prices to Disney.

It's quite possible that Zavvi have a slightly higher markup on Disney steels than on others, but they are almost certainly paying a premium for the stock. I suspect that The Hut Group/Zavvi make far less profit from steelbooks than people imagine, as I seem to recall Wreck saying that Play made very little money from their steelbook releases due to the very tight margins.

If you don't believe UK consumers are short-changed by Disney, compare the single disc HMV 'Cars 2' Steelbook to the 5 disc US Viva, or the single disc UK Blu of 'The Incredibles' to the 4 disc US release :(

Sorry but I am really not buying into this Zavvi being forced to rip us off, if that's the case how come the Little Mermaid and Jungle book Steelbooks are £6 more compared to the amarays? Also Fast and Furious 6 is not a Disney production and yet that's £23 too.

First question: Steelbooks always command a premium over amarays, especially Disney Steelbooks. Second question: a company can't be competitive all of the time and Universal are known for their high prices anyway (often around £20). No doubt it will be £9.99 in a few months anyway.

I know it's the in thing to diss Zavvi, but I think a lot of it is uncalled for. The Germans have been pumping out Steelbooks usually of a much lower quality for similar prices for years, yet Zavvi get a bad reputation. I don't see Amazon.de getting as much criticism despite them charging even more than Zavvi (or Entertainment Store for that matter). Yes you get comments about the price but you don't see people saying that they are ruining collecting or making YouTube videos on the subject.

EDIT: I forgot to say, it is not Zavvi who are ruining this hobby, it is the collectors who constantly ***** and moan about everything. If it's not the film itself; it's the artwork, embossing (or lack of), the paint finish, the lack of content, the print run, the price, the release date, the retailer etc.

While I do think the Disney prices are questionable at best (especially after what Zavvi pulled with Aladdin when they marked it up by £6 on their own outlet store after claiming to be out of stock) you are right that they seem to get a harder time than some other places.

It's also worth pointing out that other than the £20+ new releases and Disney steels (which are a touch overkill) the rest of Zavvi's prices are not too bad, especially if you always use vouchers and go through Quidco (if possible). Doing that means that I can get most Zavvi steels for about £13 with free shipping. Which is pretty decent when you consider Play charged £10 for similar products.

Heck even on the Disney steels I used a voucher so I got them for £21 rather than £23. So I guess it's down to what people are comfortable paying. Though it does mystify me that some Zavvi steels work with the codes and some don't, bit odd that.

All I would say in defense of ES over Zavvi is that they are a much smaller company and do genuinely limited runs. Not to mention that their releases have featured all the extras and 3D discs where available, which is the one thing I'd like to see Zavvi start doing. I think people would have no complaints with the price if they felt they were getting ALL the content available.

Though I do agree with you when it comes to the whole embossing/gloss/matte etc debate. Pretty much every steel I own looks great in one way or another so all of this nitpicking seems trivial. Plus, I don't think I've heard anyone complain over the quality of Zavvi releases in terms of how they look. As most of them are top notch.

I have this steelbook pre ordered, but its stupid that they havent even shown the artwork yet. Im keeping it pre ordered just in case it doesnt come back (but Im pretty sure it will) but I really hope its nice artwork, Disney usually never disappoints!

Hi guys.

I have this pre ordered with my current card, but im being issued a new card in September.

Will this effect my pre order if I change my payment details on Zavvi ?

Hi Macca, it might, as they'll try to authorize your old card before shipping in Nov, and by that time the old card won't work anymore, since your new card is being sent in September.
