One concern with this; will it's aspect ratio be 4:3 or 16:9 ? Originally, this was released as 4:3 as that was what the director intended. Later on, a special UK version was released that contained 2 versions of the movie; one that was 4:3 and the other was a cropped, 16:9 version.

This is also my concern. For all the hate that movies get for not being OAR, this one not being the original 4:3 should worry people

Exactly. I don't care how many copies are released as long as I can get one. This is one of the few times I will buy both a steel and amaray if I must. It's on my list of must haves in "blu" :movie:

Akira wasn't a fiasco, it's one hell of a steelbook and would have sold out had it been released with a low Ed number, love the flick and the steel

It's true though (maybe that's why it's so funny ). My young mind could not resist the animated boobies back then... or even now.

Also, I would love for Manga to release more classic anime movies in Steelbook format. I would love to own so many of the old films like Jin-roh, or Wings of Honneamise, mostly films though as I am not really into anime series besides a few of the darker more serious ones (ie. Berserk).

This was the first Anime I bought and it was my favorite for the longest time. Too bad play.com doesn't ship to USA, but I'm sure we can get a hold of some of these through here. I agree that it should be G2 and have different art work as well.

Imagine artwork on play atm is purely placeholder held over from DVD hence G1 aspect.
Think Manga UK were too greedy on Akira and hope they learnt lesson so this won't get reprint.

Ninja Scroll U.K. Blu-ray Due October 15

Classic action film will be released in a steelbook edition, exclusive to U.K.Manga UK has confirmed on its twitter feed that it will release Yoshiaki Kawajiri's classic anime action feature film Ninja Scroll on Blu-ray in the U.K. on October 15. Manga said the release would be in a limited edition steelbook, exclusive to the U.K.

Manga also said that it wanted to release one classic film a year in the Blu-ray steelbook format, following the strong sales of the Blu-ray Akira. Ninja Scroll's trailer and the steelbook design would be revealed in June; Manga said it was planning on doing something "a bit flash."

One a year sounds mighty fine to me, would be soft on the wallet also, plus it will allow them to pick out only the cream of the crop stuff to release.
