I always steered clear of CineMuseum because they seemed like shady people, doing something akin to bootleg releases— using cool art doesn't make one a 'premium' retailer

Barely anyone knowing about them may be the reason why they've been able to get away with stealing art in the past. But if they steal from an artist who is *really pissed off* and willing to sue CM, that artist will win

Not the first time CM have done this and I doubt it'll be the last. As a member of PosterSpy's private community group I've seen numerous artists come forward over the past few months claiming CM have used their art without permission, and the responses they've received from CM have been downright disrespectful. Very shady and unprofessional!

Not great timing for that.

Dear Slim, I wrote you but still ain't callin'
I left my cell, my pager, and my home phone at the bottom
I sent two letters back in autumn, you must not-a got 'em
There probably was a problem at the post office or somethin'

Didnt i see earlier in the thread that the reason they charge such high prices is because they have to get permission from the artists?

as per thread description carlo has paid for 5 out of 6 permissions and missed the last one...

he believed the sixth one was included in the licensing packaging he had to pay to the distributer in italy (like the two original poster artworks he has used for full slip and lenticular).. he was wrong apparently and has now fixed his error

is this witch hunt really necessary? he showed his good intent in paying most of the artists and missed the other.. yes, he should have known better and yes, its not his first time.. hopefully he will learn from this, but i cant see why any collectors should be overly butthurt about this..

You don't get credit for doing things that you are legally obliged to do. You do however get credit for showing a bit of humility, owning up to your mistakes without deflecting the blame elsewhere at the same time and displaying good customer service. An apology with a 'yeah but' isn't really an apology. That credit would go someway towards avoiding this witch hunt. I agree its harsh but there's a reason for it. I doubt Weet or Manta would receive such backlash... you know why? Service.

This doesnt affect me as I don't collect CM but you reap what you sow...

Not really a "witch hunt" I'd say, but more people being curious about the situation. The artist has come out and said his artwork has been used without his permission. It's not the first time they did this, and there has been no statement by CM in the meantime either. So people add 1 and 1.

maybe he would have shown a little humility, if the studios he allegedly knowingly and spitefully stolen from has confronted him with a little humility themselves, instead of calling him a motherf***er and a crook out in public without even talking to him beforehand... I‘m shocked that people think that this is the right approach of handling such things and that its in any way ok to act like this.. it would have been more understandable if he had done it twice in a row to the *same* studio and it was like.. obvious.. he has tried to steal their artwork, but afaik its the first time with this particular studio and they didnt know of the hickups he had previously..

Maybe he would have. Maybe he wouldn't. We'll never know. What we do know however is that this isn't the first time something like this has happened. It's also not the first time CM responses have been less than courteous and it seems they don't have to be called an MF to respond in that way. I never said being called an MF in public was the right approach. I said there are likely reasons for it...

Anyway as this doesnt affect me this'll be my last response. I'm going for an ice cream

i agree.. they are definitely not the best in handling these situations and seem hotheaded themselves

after checking out Tony Stella's work ... dude does a lot of official work for Scream / Shout Factory and he's on a lot of steelbook covers I own. Platoon being one for example. Beautiful.

So he's not a hack job artist.

Its obvious the misfire came from CM seeing Manta use it and thus thinking it was official creative as in what a creative brief is sent over where as instead Manta paid the artist and took a long time to get it approved. CM thought it was then good to use, and did that, and then Tony Stella freaked out (for good reason) as he did mention "Tarantino wants to use it" and I'm guessing that all got ok'ed for Manta to use etc. And where I could POSSIBLY see truth in the QT comment is I myself, HDN, and Snolly have done official artwork stuff for Tarantino in relation with his personal assistant and its typically worded as such, so it wouldnt shock me as they are fans themselves and when they see stuff created , they then pay to use etc, and im guessing there was a future for that poster in some fashion for QT.

I have some of my own personal thoughts and educated guesses which are likely more fact, but I'll leave them out of here...
