How many people open their Steelbooks when they buy them or do you just leave them sealed.

So far i have 13 Steelbooks and have opened 3 i opened Angels and Demons,Inglorious Bastards and District 9.

I fear if i open my pirates and nightmare before christmas ones i will have to modify them to be able to put the discs in and not have them in a sleeve

Can we say that the steelbook is an investment in the long term ?

Thanks

I wouldn't say so, very few if any steelbooks are holding their value these days. I think the grail days are over now there are so many steels being produced, more choice means people are less likely to spend the big money on steels any more IMO. I certainly wouldn't class them as an investment.

I buy steels for my own lessure, i just love the artwork without all the "Hi-def like never before" crap printed all over it.

I keep them in plastice slipcases, but couldnt give two hoots aboyt what they are worth.

I've always opened my steels and probably always will... I see them as collector's items and like to keep them protected (I use sturdy plastic slips), but I also like to admire all the artwork and actually view the film inside. I understand why some prefer to keep them sealed though - I did actually try to keep one of my "grails" sealed when I first got it... that only lasted about a day though. :p

alway's open them,i feel like if i spend x amount of money of a steel,i just have to open it. otherwise it is a waste of money to me,i can't keep things sealed up doing nothing for me,and that's just not steels either. i hate having things that are still in the boxes and im never going to use them, all the steels i buy are movies im interested in and watch regularly. i've also said since the start i will never ever sell a single one of my steelbooks. no matter how high the value is

The Great Debate....

I open all of my Steelbooks, wether I get them at the store for regular price or Crazy online prices.:D

For Example:
• When I go to Target or Best Buy, or Walmart I buy the Steelbook & I open it up right in front of the Cashier, Customer servive, or Returns counter :scat:
• I keep my receipt handy.
• I usually make small talk with an employee and be super friendly. I tell them I'm a Steelbook collector, so im checking it to make sure ita not dinged. Most people they claim they've never seen one...
• Finally I rip the plastic off and hold it up to the ceileing light and tilt it back & forth in the light to make sure there is no damage.:ohno:

Here is a pic of my sweet diamonds....enjoy

Hmm strange strange stats indeed. According to the poll, a wopping 62% of you reported that you open your steels. Fair enough, stats are stats. But I got a question. Look in the main picture thread (the one with 1.6 million views). How many do you see opened? How many do you see factory sealed? I don't know, me personally, I see 80-90% factory sealed. Anyone wish to weigh in on this anomaly?

No takers? Not a one?

I have quite sealed, mostly for lack of time to watch them right now, but there are also many open, which I keep with protective covers.

There is no standard for this, some that I will not be able to see them in the short term, I keep them sealed until such time that I can see the movie.

All this fuss over a bit of 'exclusive' paper

bah i dont give a rats a** what the steel looks like, the slipcover is going to be AMAZING  and all my steels remain sealed so ill never see whats underneath ;)

and its numbered and its a 1k print run... in my opinion its a win :D

Forgive me for asking a daft question, but what is the point in buying a Steelbook that can't be seen, only the paper around it being visible?

every collector has their niche. Mine is rarity and exclusive steels. If i want to watch the movie, ill buy a regular blu.

like with vintage toys, collectors love sealed items, even though its toys and meant to be play with. Same can be said with cars, meant to be driven but collectors dont

I know that, I just don't see the point of buying a Steelbook edition where you never actually see the Steelbook.

and i agree with you too sometimes... for example, zavvis wreck it ralph has an amazing back art, i have no issue opening that since the back is way better than the front. I do open some steels that i think have amazing over all art to display but for example, with the thor 2 release its a meh art so it'll remained sealed.

I think he gave a pretty good answer as to why he keeps his Steelbooks sealed.

edit: My death of Superman first edition has a black plastic covering on it, and I'm not going to be opening that one anytime soon, I can't see what's inside, but that's why I bought a 3rd or 4th printing to read it.
