[/COLOR]im not understanding how this is a matte finish... maybe im crazy and lack of sleep but it feels like a gloss finish. Ive been comparing this to my matte steels and the pacific rim finish doesnt feel rough but is smooth all over.

This is the kind of matte finish with a metallic shine and that feels really smooth. The earlier Canadian Steelbooks such as Troy, Departed, Last Samurai and V for Vendetta have this same kind of finish. If you check their unboxing videos on YouTube, you'd see the reviewer running his fingers over the covers and commenting how smooth they are.

In fact, gloss finishes do not feel as smooth and you could leave faint scratch lines just by running your fingers over.

There are also matte finishes that are very poor and totally dull. And don't feel as smooth. The UK Oblivion is one example. Here's a close-up of its finish. You can see the individual dots with your naked eye:

Just received mine. I can confirm (as shown in earlier pics) that the print job on this JP one is superior to the Futureshop version. It's clearer and more detailed. Also, the colors appear slightly more vibrant.

However, mine arrived in a thin cardboard mailer, and unfortunately it was badly dented so mine if going back to Japan.

Honestly it's not a bad steelbook. It might be the best one available up til now, but I think it is not a fair price point. The FS version was available for $24.99. How does Japan justify 5,695 YEN (roughly $55) which is more than twice the price, simply because there are a few papers and stickers placed inside the steelbook before the shrinkwrap goes on.

Sorry but that is not correct. 3,695 YEN (roughly $35 USD) would have seemed about right.

Gift wrapping is essential when buying from Amazon JP.

But their CS is the best. A good tip for members that don't know:

If an item is OOS and you tell them yours arrived damaged, they will tell you to keep it AND refund you also. I think there is a limit how many times you can do this (a member said three).

1. Second bonus disc has two extras: (i) Pacific Rim: A History of Jaegers (30 minutes), and (ii) The Making of Pacific Rim (30 minutes). They are in English audio but offer Japanese subtitle only (can be turned-off).

2. You can watch the movie with Japanese audio + English subtitle option. (You need to set the menu language option of your BD player to Japanese. Otherwise you will see English, German and Arabic language options only)

How do you do this as it's only offering me the option of returning the item for a refund?

Got mine in perfect shape

Gift wrapping is definitely the way to go on orders of one. It's a shame you have to pay extra though for them to package as if you were buying two :dunno:

The steel is DEFINITELY better than the Future Shop version when lined up. This has such a better resolution. It makes the Future Shop version look washed out.

My copy arrived today and despite the poor packaging seems to be in perfect condition!
Is this confirmed to be region A only? Wont open if it is and will get a UK version to watch instead.
