The disc will be the same as the new US Special Edition

Here's something that's made me very happy. From the PR company -

Hi Matt,

I hope you are well, please find attached the press release for Pain & Gain. I am pleased to confirm that the UK release will feature the same extras as the US special edition release.

Kind Regards

Kerry

Latest update from Zavvi
Still waiting on finalised artwork.

The finishes are overall matte varnish, except for a spot UV gloss on Mark and Dwayne on the front cover.

There’s a pantone red on their names on the front cover, and emboss on the title treatment.

Confirmed as 1000 units only and from the traffic and questions we are getting, think this will only last a couple of days at the most before selling out.

hidefninja is a forum for collectors.

As of this post there are over 450 members active and its only 5.00am in the UK

Collectors by nature tend to collect, and the more limited the print run, the more focus there will be - does not matter what the movie is like (I for one dont open them anyway - I just collect them)

Taking the total amount of members on here, it would not take too many members to buy a copy with the end result of Zavvi selling out - Therefore the "who bought 50 copies and spoilt it for everyone" seems a bit of a ridiculous statement and seems to be repeated many times for new limited releases. (Refer first 5-7 pages of any thread on the forum after a limited release is available for order and then "sold out")

In addition a lot of members do buy 2 copies for reasons that also do not need to be repeated again and again

With this release in particular with all the coupon code cancellations Zavvi probably only sold 800 or so anyway

This selling out was bound to happen. I was asleep. To me the quite sudden appearance of this steel in this quantity was designed to stir consumer interest in an overly steelbook-saturated market. It's marketing at its core and I'm sure we will see more of it.

And what is happening, has happened before. Take a look at the wine industry of 20 years ago. The Garagistes(supposedly so small in production, they were made in the garage)were a group of Bordeaux producers who produced tiny production runs - ( think Valandraud and Le Pin) with not enough to go around, sometimes 200-300 dozen for a global market. It was instantly rare, it was instantly desirable and chased. Prices soared, some more than $1000 a bottle. Other countries followed: America has Screaming Eagle or Harlan Estate, Australia had Wild Duck Creek Estates "Duck Muck" which I saw going for in excess of $1000 a bottle - only 70 cases produced.

You can go back further too. Tulipmania is the name given to the brief period of insanity in the Dutch Golden Age. The items in question in the year 1637 were not steelbooks(only because they didn't have plasmas stupid) but tulip bulbs. The old supply and demand game got a bit out of whack and one bulb called Semper Augustus(think Rambo uncut perhaps) fetched more than 10 years wages, traded for 5 hectares of land. Mind you, it was a very pretty bulb by all reports. This era was considered the first speculative bubble. And we know what happens to all bubbles ...

The moral? Don't buy bulbs. Stick to steels.

*oh and I forgot to mention that when forgeries of rare wine bottles started to appear on the market, guess what the Garagistes did - they laser etched the bottles with serial numbers

I missed out as I'm in California on holiday and have a very limited internet connection. Most hotels I've stayed in have not had free WiFi and I'm not paying $14 for it. I had no chance with this and am lucky that this hotel does have free WiFi, so if it does come back up, I'll grab one. I'm in San Fransisco for the next two nights and not sure if I'll have free WiFi. So again, I might be stuck

I don't know why everyone is going mental over this release. It's only limited to 1,000 IN THE UK - We know that 4,000 units is the minimum production number from Scanavo, and chances are that there are another 3,000 units that have been acquired as exclusives from other retailers in other countries. It's only a matter of time before another retailer announces that they have an exclusive version available in their country. As soon as another exclusive version is announced, there will be a load of UK cancellations, as we saw with Jack Reacher, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and Hansel & Gretel earlier in the year!

I'm also disgusted at how Zavvi have handled this pre-order...

First of all, the listing has been up for days now, so why didn't they make it live straight away? I hate how some SteelBooks appear randomly and go live straight away, whereas others appear during the week and go live on a Saturday evening - Who chooses the day and time? Why don't they post a countdown timer on the listing page so we can all see when the pre-orders go live?

Secondly, given the very limited nature of this release, they should have restricted orders per person! I doubt very much that 1,000 people ordered this release, and I bet a large percentage of people ordered more than one or two! Restricting orders should have been common sense. Alternatively, they should have staggered the pre-orders so that people who aren't able to reach a computer at this time would still have a second chance to order at a later date. This would make it fairer for people who may be at work or be out socialising on a Saturday evening

I also think Zavvi should limit such limited releases to UK buyers only, or at least for the first few days to give NATIVE customers a fighting chance of buying a BRITISH release! I bet at least 10% of the orders placed were from non-UK customers! If after the first few days or week there are still some that haven't been pre-ordered, only then should it be offered to non-UK customers.

Needless to say, I missed out - Most likely due to scalpers and foreigners.

Ay! Long live the Queen!

What's next? Every country keeps it resources for its self? I can guarantee you that the West won't survive for 1 month. How do you think steelbooks are made? It's not even a UK product in the first place. Your comment is stupid.

If your Steelbook gets damaged, send it back and see if you can get a replacement. If you can't, get a refund. You shouldn't prevent others who want it by exploiting the fact you can order as many limited edition collector's items you like for yourself and making it sell out faster. Not very good "collectorship" is it.

There's a population of the people that do this who go "now what should I do with these 9 remaining Pain & Gain Steelbooks? I know! I'll rip people off and immediately put it on eBay for £10 above the original selling price!"

@Liam125 - You've clearly not had the unfortunate experience of having to return a SteelBook to Zavvi! Let's just say it isn't quite as easy as your "utopian" ideal suggests!

I would think that anyone here who has had bad experiences with Zavvi sending scratched or dented SteelBooks in the past (read: most people), will most likely purchase a spare "just in case". A collector should not have to choose between keeping a clearly damaged item, or sending back and risk there not being any replacements and having to settle for a refund. In a perfect world, Zavvi would provide a perfect service - Unfortunately that's not the case (far from it!), and too many of us have been burnt in the past!

Those who order two for themselves are smart collectors. If anything, this is good "collectorship", as most people will then either return the spare, or offer it around at cost price to a fellow collector who may have missed out (if the SteelBook sold out). Ordering an extra SteelBook is considered acceptable. However, ordering a dozen for the sole intent of reselling on eBay for an inflated price purely to profiteer is clearly a big no-no and highly frowned upon, so we are at least on the same page when it comes to your second paragraph above

Zavvi don't seem to have any morals and will sell to whoever wants to stump up the cash. Their sole purpose is to make money, and they don't care whether ten people buy 100 units, or a thousand people buy a single unit - It's all the same to them, so long as they get paid! I know that's wrong, you know that's wrong, and Zavvi should impose a restriction on certain "limited" items to offer everyone a fair chance. After all, a thousand individual customers means a thousand repeat customers, whereas selling to scalpers only restricts their "reach"

I've been following this thread from the start and of all the lame posts I've seen this has shocked me the most. I understand you're annoyed but If it wasn't for international interest in Steelbooks the hobby would be very dull and you can't prioritise one country.

Seems to be a fair bit of bitterness over this release and indeed the way it has been handled. With the buzz surrounding the release and the limited number it was obvious some folks we're going to miss out on a copy, there just was not enough for everyone. I'm sure a lot of folks got happy with the order button once it did go live so would expect this to pop up again for a very short time so there should be another chance. The speed in which this sold was not only surprising but incredible as well. I'm pretty sure there will now be more releases of the limited print run nature as Zavvi will see the ££££ and will want to do it again, so all those who missed out should not only subscribe to this thread for updates on if and when it does pop back up but learn from this, be ready next time, and look forward to the next limited run where hopefully you will get a copy.

Regarding the postage that's simply not true, I know the international postage from zavvi is cheap but I do the same if I sell on ebay, I offer free UK postage but incorporate it into my price, which actually costs me 2.30 and international postage I charge 1.20 for, because it costs 3.50. I couldn't charge the full international rate because then my product would be overpriced as 2.30 of it is towards postage, simple really.

Maybe zavvi should take plays approach then....

But they want to make money, so thry do what they do. Do you honestly think they care that you missed out on one? I doubt it, they provided an item and it sold thats all their bothered about.

I just hope spine slasher harry has the day off when these come in :scat:

Zavvi are a UK busniess owned by The Hut Group (also from the UK). Their HQ is in Northwich, Cheshire, UK. They sell predominantly UK stock. Therefore, whenever Zavvi have an exclusive, this makes it a UK exclusive and should be FOR UK CUSTOMERS ONLY.

It would be very closed minded of Zavvi to ignore a large portion of potential sales from customers overseas. They are a business after all.
I know you must be bitter about missing out, but thats the nature of very limited releases.

I'm grateful that Zavvi have done something different, rather than their standard 4K release.

Man this post was buried,.. to the top!

hey guys, let's remember that we've seen things like this before, and sometimes they have a tendency to come back in stock.

sit tight, watch this thread for updates, and I'm sure we'll see it come back in stock for ordering.

always remember, sometimes our good members here might order a couple of extras and host a group buy.

let's keep it positive please, and meanwhile, you should check out this new game I invented... :movie:
