Here's something that's made me very happy. From the PR company -
Hi Matt,
I hope you are well, please find attached the press release for Pain & Gain. I am pleased to confirm that the UK release will feature the same extras as the US special edition release.
The finishes are overall matte varnish, except for a spot UV gloss on Mark and Dwayne on the front cover.
There’s a pantone red on their names on the front cover, and emboss on the title treatment.
Confirmed as 1000 units only and from the traffic and questions we are getting, think this will only last a couple of days at the most before selling out.
Oh well, some you win some you lose.... I though it would sell quick, didnt think it would be this quick, but I had better things to do with my day than sit at the computer refreshing the page all day, I thought it would go on sale around 6, checked a short while ago and it was gone...
No use crying over spilt milk....I'll buy one of the 3000 others that pop up in another country
In my experience, even the titles that are supposed to go live at 6pm do so a good few minutes early, sometimes closer to 5pm than 6pm. In this instance, no time was given. The only indication was a post made this morning which turned out to be accurate (nearly six hours before). I don't blame you for being annoyed, I would be too, but it's probably best just to accept it and try to obtain a copy sometime in the future. No doubt there will be cancellations, hopefully you'll be able to grab one.
lol I snoozed too, had a post-tea nap and awoke to find it sold out.
I presumed it would be 6pm, so that hour caught a lot of us out (intentional by zavvi???)
it will no doubt come up on their own ebay page, so any ideas of cancellations coming back in stock are probably futile.
I imagine this will come up at blufans or kimchi though (blufans seem to get most paramount new releases don't they??)
and tbh, id prefer it from either of them anyway.
it is good though, to see a title sell out so fast, I think an hour is a record isnt it for the uk? beats H&G and GI Joe, even jack reacher.
maybe zavvi will pick up more shares of high end print runs now.
my guess would be that this will do a 'jack reacher' and be very expensive for a while, then the price will drop rapidly back to retail value a month or so after - when everyone goes for euro/Asian imports which will be the same steel, but with a different j-card.
Another thing. This whole thread would be a lot more civilized if people didn't post saying 'ordered my copies' or 'snagged my 2 incase of <alien attacks/evil postman/excuse to hide the fact they're like trading or scalping>'
Posting 'got mine' or 'I'm in' or even just 'ordered' stops the jealousness and snidyness coming out.
Zavvi put this up at a time that suited all customers, including international ones who we in the uk subsidise their cheaper postage, i for one have been checking regularly like most on here.
There wasnt a specified time for this to go live, and there will be cancellations no doubt as always

How many other of their Saturday releases have gone up at 5:00 (11:00 my time)? Yes, I'm bitter because I have been trying to collect all the Zavvi releases I'm not going to bother with keeping track of cancellations either. I guess I did lose out on this one.
To bad i canceled my 2nd copy without Reward Points otherwise i could give it to a ninja how missed it.
But shame on all who bought a second copy to sell it for some bucks!

I really don't think cancellations will go back on sale. Aladdin didn't, they just put 500 odd on their ebay page, and incase anyone missed it... it says 'save £11.99' so this will probably be a touch over £30 if it comes back. at that price im not buying anyway
I always order 2 copies just in case of damage. If both are damaged then that is Sod's law. If ok, I sell it on to a fellow ninja. I have already offered to keep my spare to 1 side with no intention to scalp. Helping out ninjas is how I Roll.
I don't thinks it's anybodies business how many you buy tbh. But by simply avoiding broadcasting the quantity you've went for in any posts stops the backlash.
And I'm not aiming this at you. I just mean in general. For everybody.
Let's not lose focus here people. As apsmith says, this is likely to come back in stock at some point so there is no point jumping to conclusions and posting impatient responses to vent stress.
This happens every time a very ltd release goes to pre-order. Old heads and newer members post about their surprise and sheer disgust that it sold out so fast. But only when they missed out. Come on folks, every time 1k or less has gone to pre-order in the UK it has disappeared very quickly.
Posts like this have become the norm everytime a ltd run sells out
Grrrrrrrr, this is why I absoutely hate such limited print runs and people who buy more steelbooks than they need.
A friend and I really, really enjoyed this film and what with the rather poor selection of steelbooks on offer recently, I was looking forward to this.
Instead, people buy multiple copies (one person on this site saying they plan to cancel an one of their orders later down the line-why?) and now those who do want them have to pay the jerks who bought more than they need the extortionate prices they will demand. This doesn't seem fair at all to me, and I really hope Zavvi stick to 4000+ print runs in future.
That's crazy sold out
anyone who has ordered more than 1 copy should have them cancelled
With 1000 limited it should only be 1 copy per customer
If anyone has placed more than 1 it simply should not be allowed and anyone who has done this are not letting genuine fans of film place an order
As most people only buy 1
Buying to sell at a profit should never be allowed with any limited release of only 1000 or 2000 run
Zavvi should cancel anyone who has placed more than 1
So any customer who has placed an order example qty of 2/3/4/5 etc there order should be reduced to only 1
It can't just be presumed that everyone has ordered 50 copies each of this. There is every chance that more could become available and the above posts only serve to cause chaos and anger at a time when everyone is hyped up.
And if people are ordering more than 1 then that is their prerogative and their could be a very good reason for it. Some of you say you were sleeping. Why not ask a fellow ninja to order you one so that you don't have to set an alarm? That way you sleep and wake happy, not disappointed.
I have helped a couple of guys out recently with copies they were after. One was having trouble confirming the order with Zavvi on their account at the time and another had their card details run out so it was easier for me to order on their behalf and they sort me out later. No biggie for me and I get to help a fellow collector out. If there was a limit of, say, 2 copies then one of them would have missed out.
I also get a couple of copies for myself. You may think what you like about me doing that but there is no rule against it. I, along with many other collectors, will invest in a spare copy to ensure we get a copy in good condition. If my copies are all fine then I'm happy to help someone else who has missed out or even (god forbid) hang on to it for a future trade.
It is apparent that some people probably won't see my way of thinking as being right, but hopefully you can take into consideration why I might prefer the limit not to be imposed regardless of whether they ship internationally or not.
I have managed to give myself the opportunity to buy every sub-1k print run this year. The only ones I haven't got on order are the ones I specifically chose not to buy. It takes late nights, early mornings and a lot of dedication. If I can do it then almost anyone can, right. We are all human after all.
If a 'scalper' wants to get multiple copies to sell at inflated prices then they will always find a way. Multiple accounts etc and it won't be stopped. But because I buy multiples it does not mean I'm one of them.
There are a lot of good people on here happy to help others at cost, there are many good people here happy to offer their time at no cost, and there are also many good people who will also profit from steelbooks. There are also a few harmless morons but we don't need to go there! But as long as they aren't being rude or scamming others then it is part of the hobby that should probably be accepted and we need to get over sooner rather than later.
We as collectors are sometimes too quick to get hung up on trivial points that then have a negative impact on the close community feel that this forum offers. We are too quick to make an assumption about a fellow member when it is not our business to do so. My advice is to not worry too much about about these minor concerns and to try and enjoy this hobby to it's fullest We're mostly all here to collect and appreciate others collections so let's focus our energy on that instead.
I hate this 1000 copy crap. Just takes the fun out of steelbook collecting. I'd rather just own the steelbook than own a "rare" steelbook, the end result is the same.
kezzar - this ltd run crap is exactly what I love about the collecting hobby. Sorry that it can impact on you negatively but there will very definitely be another version available elsewhere at a cheaper price. It won't be ltd and I'm sure someone here can help you get it at cost. I also love that about this hobby too. Hope you get a copy either way.
