So I think im going to start getting into these penny auctions. I feel like if you know what you are doing and do a little research, you can use it to your advantage most of the time.

quibids is the site I'm gonna prolly start on. The way it works is you buy a certain number of bids for $0.60 per bid, and then use those bids to try and win a product, say a blu ray movie. if you are the last bidder, you win the product. if you aren't then your bids go to waste UNLESS you decide to purchase the product at retail value. then you get the product minus the difference you spent in bids. So if you bid 20 times on a blu worth $25, you only have to pay the difference of $13, since you spent $12 on bids.

so as long as you are committed to buying the product either way, you can never actually lose.

ill see how it goes. you have to buy bids in a package, so like 45 at a time, which means there will most likely be some left over after winning a product (or not winning a product). if i do this and i have some bids left over, ill see if i can win some random things and give them away here (as long as i dont want them :p)

whoever invented this things is a flipping GENIUS since they pretty much can't lose either. ive looked at completed bids, and they have sold $100 gift cards for say $8.00, which at first looks like a major loss, but when you think about the fact that 800 bids had to be made for that auction at $0.60 per bid means they sold that gift card for $480 EEK!

anyways, ill report how well i do. its kind of like gambling lol

these are a rip...

i wouldn't call it a rip as theres nothing hidden about it. they even say its very unlikely that you will win a laptop for $20. im not gonna advocate their site but if you know what you are getting into you should be ok.

like i said, if i can score some cheap blus ill raffle them off here. i really only joined the site to try and get a cheap copy of bioshock, or at the worst ill have to pay full retail for it. if i have any left over bids ill see what i can do.

k, guess i cant do that anymore :p

i was watching bioshock 2 games. i was committed to buying anyways.

over the past 2 weeks, well over a dozen auctions, the average auction final bid price was under $3. the high was $10, low was like $0.40.

A month ago they had an auction go for $19. I had 65 bids so I figured I could go at least up to the max its ever been. I could cover the max by a couple dollars worth of bids and still be in a position to win.

Bidding starts, only like 2 other guys and me. Going back and forth between the 3 of us. Two other guys join in later and randomly bid here and there. I figure I'm in a pretty good position.

To end the story, I didn't win, spent 65 bids, walk away spending $60 on the game. Not terrible, though I know i can get it for $50 in stores. Final price was like $23, well over the most in over a month.

Moral of the story, not going back. Too much of a coincidence for the one auction I'm in to go that high. Last night two ended at $5 and $1.

Sad face for mobius :(

moral of the story, listen to cali.... lol, just like no one was in MW2 tonight, I hate GREEN arrows.

the only thing i can think of is that they have either a computer algorithm set up to outbid a certain percentage of the bids on the site, or they have users who use the site's bank to outbid any other user.

so its even more like gambling at a casino than it looks, since the house is playing using their bank to out bid you (kind of like in black jack).

meh, im over it. i bought a $50 game for $65, could do worse in the world of investments :p

although i did send them a nice email explaining why ill never come back :)
