Sorry if this is the wrong place but as it directly affects steelbooks (especially exclusives) in the UK I thought it would be a good heads up.

The news saddens me as Play were one of the best steelbook retailers. Their packaging and exclusives were second to none. I just hope someone picks up the baton........amazon I'm looking at you!

As I said in the Lawless thread, I expect Play are running out - or have run out of - their bespoke steelbook packaging, so I expect that for single steels they'll just revert to normal amaray packaging (card envelope) from now on.

I think orders of multiples are still being bubble wrapped though.

My hefty order which arrived yesterday was all packaged in the steelbook boxes with foam padding.

Hi Guy;s,

Dont want to sound like the Grimm Reaper

Only concerned about the people who are gonna loose thier jobs :( as the UK is on its A$$ as it is with the influx of Polish Imigrants ?????(i hear)

heh, many of the Polish Economic Migrants (invited in with open arms by UK government & business) have apparently been returning to their native land with healthy bank balances (after currency conversion), since the UK economy tanked back in 2009. :hilarious:

And , on another note , some of the guys in the UK , have made some ridiculous profit from selling the Play steelies EEK!

I saw some pics of IM & the stack must have been at least 50 high !! and they were just being pumped out on Evil Bay like there was no tommorrow :hilarious:

You speak the truth mate very annoying seeing those ebay listings the play closure will hurt the eBay sellers the most, play.com should of put a limit on what they sell to individuals.

How do you delete your credit card details with play.com ? there is no option only edit

I'm sure they still have some and are using them for certain orders, but I haven't received any orders (multiples or single) in the steelbook boxes for a while now, and I've noticed others are reporting similar. I'm still betting they're running low on them.

This is really sad news! :(

Play.com is without a doubt the best steelbook retailer out there!

My order of Lawless came in the padded boxes whereas my extra copies of Kick Ass and Saving Private Ryan came bunged in a Jiffy bag. I'd say packaging comes down to luck of the draw at the moment!

If it turns out that they are simply phasing out the Play.com and moving operations (such as web development and customer support to Japan, hence the loss of jobs), then I can't wait to see what they have to offer. It's a shame for those loosing their jobs, but from an entirely selfish point of view, it's very interesting to see what will happen with this site in the near future.

lol .. I read that the Admins ~ were relocated to Cambridge ?? so really minimal Job losses, and Play.com is trying to blame the UK government for this closure ??

its very confusing ??

as the Government apparantly had to stop the grants to Play.com in Order to pay the Polish to go back home ?? with a 5K cheques in hand & promise not to come back :hilarious:

I'm afraid you're quite wide of the mark there. Direct retail is gone and won't be coming back as part of a re-branding. No areas of the business are moving to Japan.

What is going to happen is exactly what was announced to the press last week... the third party marketplace will remain, other functions are gone - hence the redundancies. :(
