So if there's any Ninjas that live around there, if you could let me know which areas are the best to live in (and the most affordable), I'd appreciate it!

My wife and I will be going there at the end of May to check things out and then we'll either move there in July before I work my next job or in November after my next job.

Good luck Ken. Wish you and your wife the best.
Just think of it as a New Big Adventure.

Good luck in E-Town, Ken. :) Great place financially speaking. You can really save up as cost of living is low and you can really get your feet planted so to speak. Plus Alberta probably has one of the best job markets in the country right now.

Vancouver on the other hand.... man  Been thinking of making the move east or to Alberta myself but Vancouver just won't let me go, lol, what can I say grew up here, feels like home.

Thanks, G. I appreciate that, man! (plus in Edmonton, I'll have a lot more access to slipcovers and more to help my pals like you out ;) )

Good luck Ken with the exploration and next chapter :scat:

Thank you, DB. I've lived all over the place before, but I've never been gone from home permanently. Should be quite the next chapter.

Moving is always a big deal for me. New people, new area, strange new town. Adjustment plays a big factor. I'm sure you'll do fine, we as people adapt to our surroundings. Good luck Ken on your new move, you'll do fine. :scat:

The adjustment will definitely be huge. I'm used to living in a city where I can drive from one end to the other in 25 minutes, so the big-city driving will definitely take a while to get used. Thanks for the words of encouragement, Kelly.

Dude, I was this close to making the move to Van. My buddy -- the one who directed my film, Quiver -- he moved there a couple years ago and told me he could get me a gig as a screenwriter assistant. I was very tempted, but Van is a lot pricier than Edmonton and I also have the pipeline job in Alberta to fall back on, so it was a more logical choice to head to Edmonton for now. That and it was an easier sell to my wife because of the huge mall. :p

If you ever head East to the Edmonton area, drop me a line.

Thanks, buddy! I'll have *so* much fun moving. :ohno:

Good luck Ken! Here's to hoping you'll find a nice home asap and a landlord that's not a total prick

Oh, I'm going to do my ABSOLUTE best to avoid renting at all costs. I'm so sick of putting up with ******** landlords. Thanks for the good luck! :)

Hey Tridon!

I told you to come out this way! If you're working in pipelines, Alberta's the place to be. I'm just a few hours south in Calgary. The job market here is great, though the real estate market is a little tough.

What is it exactly you do on pipelines? Do you actually work in the field, or are you more on the engineering end?

Hey bud,

Can you tell that I haven't checked this thread in a while? :hilarious:

I'm a welder helper on the pipeline. My Dad's a welder, so I've been helping him on his job (I've worked for both OJ Pipelines and Somerville so far).

Do you work on the pipeline, too?

If/when I move to Edmonton, I'll most-definitely be heading south to Calgary for the Comic-Con every year. Maybe I'll see ya around!

Cool. I work as a Technical Writer for an engineering house here in Calgary.

You should definitely come down here for the Calgary Expo (they're very particular about the name). I'm usually a volunteer and a panelist, so I'll definitely be around. Edmonton also has one. I think it's put on by the same people.

Haha, thanks... I'll keep that in mind. I don't want to receive any Calgarian beatings. :p

my name is ken(ny) and i also live in edmonton

in my opinion, the better areas are south of the river (strathcona, southgate, allendale, garneau, parkallen). however, north edmonton is cheaper for housing and has more sketchy areas
