2D version of the film was one disc to start with anyway. Bonus disc was exclusive to the 3D set and the cut down evolution boxset in the UK

Could be the disc, you could always contact fox and ask for a replacement.

For whatever reason, sometimes my BR player will just play a disc poorly. I unplug it, plug it back in and it works.

yes this is true, especially with the PS3.
if not just take out the cartridge and blow on it
