Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have announced that they are hosting a We are PlayStation photography competition that has now launched in Europe. Of course, PlayStation is all about its community ? and that?s why we?re asking you to judge the first round of the competition. PlayStation fans can visit the website and decide which shots will be put before the judges by rating each photo with a score from one to five. PSN Store and PSN Plus question

Alright,

So I already made the decision to separate the PSN plus and the PSN store updates... But I then I thought I should just ask you guys.

Would you rather have:

The two stores separated?
The two stores combined into one thread and in a single post
The two stores combined into one thread but with separate posts.

I like the idea of separated. I have no intention of investing in plus but I do check out the psn thread every week. I would like it less cluttered. But it already looks like your headed that way. ;)

Sega Considering Saturn Downloadable Titles

Sega recently announced it would be bringing between 18-24 Dreamcast titles to Xbox Live Arcade, effectively skipping over such Saturn cult classics such as Guardian Heroes, Panzer Dragoon Saga and Radiant Silvergun.

But today, Okunari has revealed to Impress Watch that "It's not that we're ignoring Saturn I think you can see this, considering that we ported Nights Into Dreams and other titles. What we announced this time is a project where we will have consecutive releases of titles that were debuted on Dreamcast. Separate from this, we're of course thinking about ports of Saturn games. It's the same as how Sega Ages and Virtual Console were separate existences. It's not that we have no intention of porting Saturn titles, so please share your requests."

This the developer does indeed port Saturn games, it could mean a massive resurgence in Sega classics.

Hulu Coming to PS3 + Subscription Service

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100629/ap_on_hi_te/us_tec_hulu_subscription

For $9.99 a month, subscribers can get the entire current season of "Glee," "The Office," "House" and other shows from broadcasters ABC, Fox and NBC, as well as all the past seasons of several series. The popular, ad-supported website will continue to have a few recent episodes for free online.

In a surprise move, however, paying subscribers will get the same number of ads as users of the free website.

Hulu Chief Executive Jason Kilar said keeping ads was necessary to help keep the subscription price low.

"Certainly there was an opportunity for us to offer an ad-free service at a higher price," Kilar told The Associated Press. "But we heard loud and clear from consumers that they would prefer to have a lower price in a way that advertising helps lower the cost."

The new site is initially available by invitation only on computers and through special applications designed for Apple Inc.'s iPad and iPhones and certain Samsung Blu-ray players and TVs — the first time Hulu is available off desktop and laptop computers.

It's coming soon to Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 3 and some of its TVs and Blu-ray players, and there are plans to launch on Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox early next year.

"More wherever. More whenever. Than ever," the company says in new marketing materials.

Hulu Plus Will Require PlayStation Plus Subscription

With Hulu Plus officially announced for PlayStation 3, you may have been excited about the prospect of streaming your favourite TV shows in HD, but it turns out it'll cost you a pretty penny if you want to subscribe to the service.

Hulu Plus will cost $10 a month to subscribe to, which when coupled with the price of an annual $50 PlayStation Plus membership to be able to gain access to Hulu Plus in the first place, the entire set-up will set you back a grand total of $170 a year.

So, Hulu Plus might be an inviting option for those planning to bag themselves a PlayStation Plus subscription regardless, but for free PSN subscribers, $170 might be too bitter a pill to swallow for streaming high-definition telly.

Nyko announces two silky new Raven PS3 controllers

06.30.10nykonravenps3controller.jpg

Silky isn't typically an adjective we'd associate with game controllers, but that's exactly how gaming accessory maker Nyko is describing the feel of their new Raven controller line for the PlayStation 3. The line includes a standard PS3 configuration as well as an Xbox 360 inspired "alternate" layout which flips the position of the left analog stick and d-pad for a more ergonomic feel. Both will connect wirelessly to your system via a USB dongle, and will cost $35 once they hit shelves later this summer. But will any game top the entertainment value of the Raven promo video?

Insomniac would support Ratchet & Clank Collection

Developer Insomniac Games has said that the company would back the idea of a Ratchet & Clank Collection release for PlayStation 3, though admitted it wouldn’t fancy actually making it.

Writing on the company’s Twitter page, the firm stated, "we won't make it, but we'd support Sony if they decided to do it."

Sony has already released a God of War Collection for its flagship home console, and announced at E3 that Sly Cooper would be next in line. In addition, it has been strongly hinted that a Team ICO Collection will follow in early 2011.

Penguin United's Eagle Eye brings WASD to your PS3 shooters

eagle-eye-20100703-450.jpg

With the PS3's plethora of USB ports scattered across the front, you'd think it'd be a no-brainer that all shooters on the console would support keyboard and mouse controls to make the FPS purists happy. Sadly that's not nearly the case, so it's up to companies like Penguin United (creators of a fine array of silly Wii peripherals) to fill the void. The Eagle Eye is its attempt, a surprisingly sizable box with an unfortunately short 2-foot USB cable and inputs for mouse and keyboard. Using buttons on that box you assign controller inputs to keys and away you go, hunting the Helgath's worst in WASD. The cost is a bit steep at $60 when it ships later this month, but nobody said having a (possibly imaginary) unfair advantage over the competition would be cheap.

Yoshida: Sony working on new hardware

Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has revealed that the platform holder is in the process of working on new hardware.

Speaking during a chinwag with Develop, Yoshida said that he was keen for developers to give their input into the creation of new platforms, insisting Sony has learned from past mishaps.

“When Ken Kutaragi moved on and Kaz Hirai became the president of SCE, the first thing Kaz said was, ‘get World Wide Studios in on hardware development’,” he commented.

“So he wanted developers in meetings at the very beginning of concepting new hardware, and he demanded SCE people talk to us [developers].”

The most obvious piece of kit that springs to mind is the PSP2, which according to industry chatter is poised for an official reveal at either GamesCom or the Tokyo Game Show later this year.

Capcom to make 'big announcement' this Thursday

Capcom Europe has let slip on its Twitter account that it will be making a ‘big announcement’ this Thursday.

The company tweeted: "Big announcement... 2 days to go!"

Quite what this announcement will turn out to be is a mystery at this point, though we reckon it’ll pertain to the company’s GamesCom line-up. Still, we can’t rule out the possibility of it being a new game announcement – Dino Crisis or Resident Evil 6 would be nice, Capcom.

Stay tuned to PSU for more details as they break.

White PS3 Slim hitting Japan later this month

white_ps3_slim.jpg

Sony has confirmed it will be releasing a White PlayStation 3 Slim console in Japan on July 29.

n addition, punters will also be able to pick up the new model with increased hard drive capacity, with Sony offering a mammoth 320GB console for 34,980 yen. Furthermore, a White 160GB PS3 Slim will cost you the same as the current 120GB model - 29,980 yen.

No word yet on whether or not Sony plans on releasing this new model in the U.S. or Europe, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more info.

Sony CECH-ZVS1 Surround Sound System for PS3 hits Japan on September 30th

surround-sound-system--remote-controller-angle600.jpg

More PS3 news from Sony. What was already known to be a fall release has just narrowed to September 30th for Sony's $199 PS3 Surround Sound System -- at least in Japan. As you might recall, this budget Sony soundbar with integrated sub-woofer and S-Force PRO Front Surround technology tethers up snuggly with your PS3 over optical digital supporting Dolby digital, DTS, MPEG-2 AAC and Linear PCM audio formats. Model CECH-ZVS1 then bounces the surround sound off the walls when placed in front of your television. It's not Sony's best soundbar but it's the only one with a matching PlayStation logo. And for some gamers, that's likely all they'll need to know.

Hideo Kojima considering making MGS5

Metal Gear Solid mastermind Hideo Kojima has told an unnamed Japanese publication that he’s stewing over whether or not he should create a new title in the stealth-action franchise or something entirely different.

According to the magazine, Kojima said that he’s keen to incorporate various things in the game that he was unable to do in the recently released Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

Apparently the design document for the game is done, and it’ll cover the “taboo” subject Kojima has discussed in past months. Quizzed on how long development would last, he replied: “If I get moving, quick.”

Peace Walker was originally going to be the next numbered entry in the series, though the ‘5’ part of the title was dropped shortly before its unveiling at E3 last year.

Sony: Xbox 720 and Wii 2 will beat PS4 to market

Sony has predicted that Microsoft and Nintendo will launch new home consoles before it gets round to unleashing the fourth generation of PlayStation.

All three major platform holders are yet to publicly discuss a new iteration of their core gaming hardware - leaving gamers to speculate over the technology a 'Wii 2' or 'Xbox 720' may contain.

Sony's Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said that despite four years passing since PS3's global debut, it still had a "longer lifecycle" ahead of it than Xbox 360 or Wii.

When asked by industry magazine Develop why Sony hadn't yet discussed PS4 publicly, Yoshida said:

"Naturally, in my opinion, Microsoft will make the first move. Or, because Nintendo's approach was not to upgrade much on its basic hardware - Wii doesn't even support HD resolution - so they might be the first to move.

"Probably we should watch these companies, in my opinion. Because PS3 was later than Xbox, and is more powerful, so it has a longer lifespan."

Microsoft may disagree: Product director Aaron Greenberg told CVG earlier this year he expected the lifespan of 'new platform' Kinect to last five long years.

Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata said last month that it was "likely" the firm would launch a 3D home console in the future.
