Oh dear the people actually pre ordering it.....I know different tastes and all but come on, it could of been so much better. If for once the community stands together on something and doesn't pre order it then they might change the artwork and learn their lesson for next time

<sigh>

To be honest, I don't think it'd make a blind bit of difference.

It would sell out eventually, and while it might get reduced, it won't really effect either Zavvi's or Disney's bottom line. Zavvi are simply the retailer, they have little to no say over artwork or contents of their products any more than Waterstone's or WHSmith's do over the cover and contents of a book. If they end up taking a big hit on one or two products, it'll barely register and even then, those costs will be passed down to Disney. A lot of companies work on a margin where 50% of the stock has to sell at the asking price to turn a profit. Anything after that is pure profit no matter what.

When you're talking small numbers like 3000 for a Disney/Pixar steelbook, it's hardly a big ask to hit that target.

Usually titles are often on sale or return (especially when it comes to Disney), so if Zavvi are left with a stupid amount, they just go back to Disney for a credit/refund. We know this has happened to some degree as Disney Rewards were offering several steelbooks this week alone for a few hundred points.

No amount of lost sales will bother Disney HE in the slightest when they're making millions from Marvel home video releases and cashing in time and time again by redesigning their existing classics range and adding O-rings which collectors go mad for. Bare in mind, there's still a handful of these classics unavailable in the UK which they're not bothered about either.

I can't see them changing any time soon.

Still available then?
I guess the very likely region b coding of the 3d disc and high price have put a few people off
The 2D disc is region B locked its also region locked in all countries to relevant region a release is from

Ratatouille and Wall-e Blu-ray releases
Its Region Locked on USA Blu-ray to Region A
Its Region Locked on Europe Blu-ray to Region B
Its Region Locked on Asia Blu-ray to Region A/C

Disney listened about Wreck-it Ralph, so why wouldnt they listen a second time? It makes a difference it we get heard.

When its an exclusive you agree to take all stock and you pay for all stock at the agreed dealer price which is lower than normal as you are agreeing to take all 2,000/3,000 or 4,000 units and usually in majority of cases with exclusives you don't have sale of return or sale of exchange with some exceptions
The whole purpose of an exclusive is the risk is with the retailer not the film studio/distributor and when its on general release a retailer only has to order as needed and less risk of having unsold stock
That why film studios and record companies love getting a retailer take an exclusive

Sometimes a release is exclusive for a limited period of time and when that period of time has elapsed there is sometimes a deal in place were the film studio takes back unsold stock and then can offer this to another retailer or sell themselves if they have this ability

Majority of exclusives are take all stock with no return of unsold stock so the retailer with the exclusive has to reduce the price or even sell at a loss to shift unsold stock but you usually only do this when you overall have at least made a profit on previous stock sold but on rare occasions you can end up selling lot more at a loss than would be liked

And it's well known that Disney only ever sell up front and at often higher prices than many other companies. They've been told off for many times here in the UK.

Zavvi will have bought all 3000, only people that loose out is them on a release like this, and that's if it doesn't "sell out"

Sold Out

6 Hours it took to sell out the steelbook on its own
Some of this stock has been allocated for the Zbox Bundle and is still available
I would though be cautious with these Zbox bundles as when your order the bundle it shows the steelbook as sold out in your order when the steelbook is sold out on its own

You can though as usual expect to this back available when cancellations are made available before or after release date

£25:OMG::OMG::OMG: I know it has 3D but I still think this is too much. I didn't order..also cancelled a few zavvi pre orders too, so many coming out and not enough pennies.

this steelbook might look OK in hand, glossed and embossed but at £20 (that's what price I thought it would be) it's too much, let alone 25. I like my German edition. Happy for the people who like the artwork:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

In the past I turned down exclusives with record companies that even included in store signing and performance by the artist in person and some where big name stars but the amount of stock you had to agree to was very risky

The artist career can very often be in decline and I knew the album would struggle to sell and its usually when this happens you get an exclusive offered to you and its just not worth the risk

Back to the steelbook this is still a popular title and even with the artwork not been we would have liked its a release that will end up for real as sold out and I don't expect to see any if any price drops happen when this come back in stock

Its different when its less impressive back catalogue films even though some of them are still classics they end up with been reduced in price a lot
The majority of Wall-e and Ratatouille will be sold at the price it is now and if any do get reduced at later stage they wont be around for long period at a reduced price especially as they are limited to only 3,000

I don't know about the deal they have with Zavvi, but either Zavvi never had the full quantities of the Toy Story steelbooks, or Disney took excess stock back to use on their Disney Rewards site.

Certainly in Asda, WHSmith and Superdrug (yes, the Superdrug), Disney asks for certain quantities to be returned after the sale window is closed. It isn't the case that these retailers are stuck with them until they sell. It was like this for years with Blockbuster in the UK, trust me, I was in the trade.

Anyway, I doubt Zavvi lose any money on Disney releases. If they did, they'd have stopped dealing with them months ago. It's not like they need a 'loss leader' in the way supermarkets do to get you through the door.

Yep! Completely agree! It hasn't sold out, don't believe Zavvi for even a second.

Out of all recent sold out items in the last week or two (this wall.e, commando, the mask, 2001) i Believe the mask and possibly 2001 to be the closest to sold out. I'm not including the jurassic parks, f&f and pirates etc because they are probably close to Selling out too but all will be avaliable when released and then we will see how long they stick around for

Maybe we could have a poll for this one title. See how many have ordered it, that might give some indication.

Sure, there will be cancellations nearer the time, but we're interested to see if it's sold out now.
