Just watched it because I was curious seeing Sly and De Niro once again fighting. I liked some of the references, but really loved Alan Arkin in yet another great supporting role. Quite enjoyable, but never really as heart-warming as it could have been.

Great performance from Jake Gyllenhaal playing two roles. This thriller was a bit of a head scratcher full of symbolisim, but I think I understood it!

I was dissapointed with this one. It featured a great cast playing very 2 dimensional characters. Only Jennifer Lawrence kept this from being dull.

You may think you understood it, but you have no idea!
And only "a bit of a head scratcher for you"? I pulled out all of my hair tryna keep up with the timeline.
After reading into it, I understand there are 3 different ways to watch this movie and make a solid argument those actually make sense.
One of the best movies I have ever watched in my life.

I'm slightly biased because I do enjoy all of Tarantino's films, so I'm inclined to like this style and dialogue. The first 2 hours or so it more like a 2 ninja movie because it's pretty slow. The last hour is great and more like a 4 to 5 ninja movie, so it averages out to a high 3 ninja. I bumped the score up to 4 because of the Tarantino bias and also the 70mm presentation was great. More thoughts in the movie specific thread.

- On it's own, its just average at best. Not scary and only has like couple of memorable creepy moments. If I compared to the original, it would've gotten a less rating. :coffee:

- Love the retro style. Love the blood and action. Totally not what I was expecting!

Bridge of Spies
Usual Spielberg and Hanks collab - nicely directed and acted, but I felt Mark Rylance was pretty underused.

Brooklyn

I honestly didn't expect to like this as much as I did. Easily Saoirse Ronan's finest performance to date!

Joy

Had some really good moments and Jennifer Lawrence was brilliant as usual, but I didn't feel very inspired by the story. However, I'm thinking I may enjoy it more on rewatch.

The Lobster

Really strange film which had me engrossed for the most part, but it slowly began to lose steam towards the end. Although, it's open-ended ending still has me thinking even now!

Mommy

I expected this to be darker and more violent. The one thing I really disliked about it though was the main character - I'm not sure if it was the actor himself or just the character he played that annoyed me. Overlong and very underwhelming overall.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

By far the most entertaining Mission Impossible film yet, and it's clear to see why Cruise is one of the highest paid action stars.

Finally got around to seeing this. The premise intrigued me and the positive buzz around this amped my anticipation quite a bit. And it's well deserved, because this is one of the best movies of the year. Yes, Brie Larson is amazing and will be nominated for Best Actress for the Oscars. But Jacob Tremblay as Jack was incredible. Truly a great performance by a child actor and I typically loathe child actors, so this is high praise from me.

Great and engaging from start to finish with great performances across the board and a unique commentary of our world now. If you're interested in this movie, you'd be best served staying away from the trailer as it does spoiler key moments. But this is highly recommended and will make my Top 10 list of the year on the upper half.
