I really need to start playing catch up on recent movies. 99.9% of the ones mentioned I've never seen
Me too tbh... if it weren't for social media, I wouldn't know about half of these new movies. Been out of the loop for a while now and can't even remember the last time I even watched a trailer for anything.

Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil (1997) - This movie was recommended by a friend and I wasn't disappointed. A remarkable cast and outstanding storyline. John Cusack and Kevin Spacey were at their best but the "unknown" secondary characters were perfectly cast. The only minor complaint that I had was that the ending dragged a bit. If you aren't familiar with this movie, I strongly recommend that you watch it.

Only managed to watch a small amount of films over these last two weeks. Apart from the two russian extraterrestrial movies (three down) all worth watching and highly recommended. Slowly going through a list I began at the beginning of the pandemic at random (no added or release date order)

Finally watched Tenet.... impenetrable nonsense. I felt like I was doing mathematical acrobatics trying to keep up with what was happening.

I couldn’t say it was bad because it was well intentioned and beautifully filmed impenetrable nonsense :D

I've been trying to find some good war movies I had missed - its one of my favourite genres but thavent added anythin to my favourites list in some time. Anyway uncovered a couple of gems I'd share for those who missed them:- All three are based on actual events!
The Siege of Jadotville (2016) 4/5 - A small force of inexperienced Irish UN Peacekeepers face an army of thousands headed up by seasoned French Mercenaries in the Congo. Based on actual events. Intense, good script, well acted - No gung-ho cheesiness. Recommended
Kilo Two Bravo AKA Kajaki (2014) 4.5 - Pretty harrowing stuff this - hyper realistic. British paras stumble into a mine field - its not a horror film but the tension ratchets its way up like one. Strong stuff here wont be for everyone. I liked the script - the camaraderie of the soldiers as they get sucked deeper into the situation is impressive. Dialogue a little like Dog Soldiers as loaded with slang and armt humor. Recommended but there are some gruesome images. No Cheese/ Gungho/ Flag here
The Outpost (2019) 4/5 OK much more of an action based war film here. There are also more of the traditional trappings of war movie cliche also on show here, but the combat sequences are intense and well choreographed. A rising sense of dread and intensity as the outpost is gradually overun by overwhelming enemy forces.

Sorry for the drawn out reviews - just thought I'd share this for those Ninjas on the lookout for fairly decent war movies that might have gone under their radars!

Never heard of either of them. I really am out of the loop these days when it comes to modern films
I wouldn't worry... you're not missing much. Both are Netflix Original films, 6 Underground being directed by Michael Bay and is absolutely terrible - Ryan Reynolds stars and plays the same character he does in every film. Space Sweepers has literally only just come out... it's a Korean space opera and therefore pretty bonkers lol, but in a fun way. Kinda long though and therefore gets a bit tiresome after a while IMO.

Assassination Nation

A very odd, stylised, yet also kind of compelling look at the evils of social media and toxic masculinity taken to the extreme. I'm not sure if I'd recommend it, but it was interesting.
