I can't wait to see this. When I heard Nichol's was trying to emulate Close Encounters, E.T. and Starman, it made my heart skip a beat! A man trying to emulate the best of late '70s early '80s Speilbergian sci-fi? YES PLEASE!
I can definitely see how those films influenced him, but I must admit that I felt a little underwhelmed by it... I was expecting it to be a 5 star film, and maybe it will be on rewatch, since I know exactly what to expect now. The main let down for me though was not having enough back story, so I didn't really care too much about the characters, because I felt like I didn't know them. Still a great watch though (hence the 4 stars) with a cool soundtrack to boot. I look forward to hearing what you think! ;)

I LOVE Butch Cassidy....
But that freakin' song damn near ruins the movie EVERY time.
(you know the one. Frickin' montage sequence.):squint:o_O
First time watch for me, but it certainly won't be the last!

You mean the Raindrops scene? That was a bit random, but I didn't mind it... it was kinda fun and did its job of showing the relationship between Butch and Etta, which I found quite amusing overall... loved that she was Sundance's lady but he didn't give AF that Butch flirted with her all the time lol.

Now go watch the follow-up...George Roy Hill, Paul Newman, & Robert Redford reunited to make THE STING (which I actually think is an even better film)!!

I originally saw this in theaters and loved it! I watched 'The Revenant' again last night, this time on bluray and WOW! I enjoyed it more on my 2nd viewing  I'm just so damn glad Leonardo finally won the Academy Award for Best Actor... he earned it! :notworthy: (in my opinion) Tom Hardy should of received one for Best Supporting Actor ;)

I know the rating system is 1-5, but this is a 10 for me!

Yeah, I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that...;)
(Not an Indiana Jones fan?)
I only ever saw bits of them back in the day, so didn't get around to watching Raiders properly until a few years ago, by which point my expectations were unrealistically high. I was then told I'd probably enjoy Temple of Doom more, so gave it a watch and thought it was even worse! That kid did my head in. :pain:

I'll try and rewatch them at some point and hopefully enjoy them more... wouldn't surprise me if I actually end up loving them, as is usually the case when I rewatch popular films that I originally disliked.

It would be nice to not have to see a film cold
I'm glad I am not alone in disliking Inherent Vice.
Anderson is the most overrated director of this current generation. (I may puke if I have to hear another person spew the sentence "Anderson is the best director working in film today.":vomit::vomit:)
You can't have a movie meander with NO PLOT and call it a "style". SO boring. He might as well hire a plane to fly around 24/7 with a banner in large Neon Letters blinking "I Am The New Robert Altman". Which he isn't. (And I am not a huge fan of Altman either...)
Kudos for the use of 70mm Film and widescreen - but, in regards to the "plot" (to quote Gertrude Stein)- "there is no there there."
