So is this a new transfer? I have the previous steelbook (I think it was Zavvi) that included a 'remastered' version of the movie with seamless branching of the extra footage, but the extra shots had noticeably worse PQ than the main feature

Which steelbook did you have
2013 release or 2014 release
2013 not remastered no extras apart from trailer

2014 Release remastered release has extras

Same 4K Scan remastered transfer from 2013 of the unrated directors cut as in what was used for the 2014 remastered release
Arrow though will have done their own encoding hence why is 2 discs

Includes Unrated Directors Cut and Theatrical Cut on separate discs

Previous Blu-ray remastered release from 2014 was just the unrated Director's Cut

Arrow Video encoding is known to be good

There is brand new and some previous extras on the discs

So I'm guessing the UK release is region "B" and the US release is region "A"
Sound right? @paulboland
Extremely likely to be Region Free with this getting a release in UK/USA/Canada same time
It is possible that UK be Region B locked and USA be Region A locked but I expect won't be as that only happened with arrow video hellraiser and that was because each was released at different times to each other

  • Thanks

Would it be too ambitious to get both editions, and then replace amaray with steelbook? You kinda get custom-made premium edition.

Maybe I should've done that with The Thing too.

Hell fu**king YES ... now we are cooking on gas pal !
That looks way nicer than that Arrow rear artwork,it looks like two separate steelbooks slapped together.
Think i will buy the collectors slip edition remove the amaray and put in my original steelbook.
Arrow should be ashamed of their rear when the front is so nice.

Wait, what?

So Arrow films are now region free? When did this happen?

Arrow Video Robocop Steelbook and Limited Edition is getting a release in UK/USA/Canada (November 25/26) and is why there is separate threads for UK and USA releases
When that happens most times discs are region free

When a arrow video release is UK only or USA only that is when discs are region locked but a few occasions some of the UK only or USA only have also been region free some was a mistake to be region free when that happened.

Arrow Video have done
Agree. The quality of Big Trouble In Little China and The Thing is just awful.
Big Trouble In Little China steelbook from 2013 is a quality matte finish and sells at mad prices on ebay
0.jpg

Yes the Steelbook from 2018 was not as good in terms of finish

Arrow have done 49 steelbooks and will be 50 with release of RoboCop
A lot of the matte finish have been high quality matte
Only a few of the matte steelbooks have been poor finish

I have all Arrow Video steelbooks apart from USA releases FYE exclusive Re-Animator and USA Django + Texas Adios and UK Releases Foxy Brown and Lady Snowblood

Granted, the badge would look better than what we have in the OP but is IMO too big and overpowering - would have preferred it somewhat smaller like on the back of the GANG RELATED steelbook:-

Put it down to inflation or to the new extras if you must but this latest ROBOCOP steelbook is priced way above what it should be compared to what the previous two steels cost at pre-order/release . . . 25 quid is anyway the price point for older 4K movie steels I thought!?

(with figures rounded up or down to the nearest 0.50p):
#1 (bought: April 2, 2013) @ £10.50 (free P&P) - released April, 2013

#2 (bought: February 17, 2014) @ £15 (free P&P) - released February, 2014

#3 (not bought yet) @ £24.99 (+0.99 P&P) - released November, 2019

As annoying as it is that Arrow always release plain matte steelbooks, without any 'bossing, at least they stick to a style so that they all look similar in your collection. Not sure whether to go for this steel or just go for an existing steel and put it in the ltd. edition slipcase
