Cancelled the steel. Such monstrosity needs to be punished.

Ordered the 3D amaray from Zoom instead. Comes in a slipcase.

HMV UK also selling them with slipcovers both 3D and 2D
They are not Zoom exclusives the slipcovers

I expect Amazon will be the same even though their website not show the slipcovers but amazon can be hit and miss if you get a slipcover at most times

I think it says a lot when even the J card is ugly...
Had this ordered since it first became available but cancelled as soon as I saw that "artwork." As with The Force Awakens I'll just get the amaray with slipcover then upgrade if blufans pull something special out of the bag.

It reminds me of the cover for the X-Men DoFP Rogue Cut steelbook. Similar palette and cheap photoshopping.

I bought it when it came out but I was never particularly happy with it, sold it last year & got most of my money back. The one thing I do remember about it was the absolute delight I felt reading a comment, on here I believe, that Wolverine looked like he's "letting rip with an Admantium fart". Whoever it was again who made that comment I say well done to you sir.

Back to this, I'll still keep it on order but will decide closer to the time.

It's just a very underwhelming design.

After looking at this a bit more I think some simple changes could really improve the idea without altering it entirely. I like the Death Troopers as they're specific to RO, but the terrible photo-shopped Death Star in the background and overabundance of flat blue colours really hurts it IMO. They could have had a nice Scarif beach with green jungle trees on the horizon in the background, which would break up the vast amounts of blue, and relegated the Death Star to appear in the sky instead (if it has to be there)... maybe spot gloss the Death Troopers AND water to give the impression of 'wetness' (ooh-er), and doing this might also add a degree of separation/depth of field illusion between the troopers and beach/trees/sky. Then, on the rear, get rid of the regular storm troopers altogether and just use the original awesome mock up art (character poster) instead. I don't mind the character heads inside, they look quite nice.

I swear, with so many of these releases it's like they get an intern to mock up an idea in photoshop and then just print it!

Cancelled. I simply don't understand how they can keep putting out 'mock up preliminary art' that looks stunning and entices us to buy in, only to reveal final art that looks like a five year old put it together with word art.

This happens all the time these days. So much so that it's begin to feel like an intentional bait and switch to see just how much they can p*** us off with the final reveal.

I'd rather buy the Amaray and get the movie poster artwork.

I pre-ordered when the artwork was unleashed because I knew it would sell out after the big reveal. But it really does look like Shadow Troopers up to their knees in paint from a clean-up in aisle 4 at Homebase.

I wonder if the regular Blu-ray includes a slip-cover as the mock-up shows only the 3D version includes one. Haven't watched the movie so this version will do until the inevitable re-release.

It's terrible. Will patiently wait for anything better (literally anything else will be better.. Except for an optical 3D Jar Jar cover).

:LOL::LOL: This made me laugh til it hurt. I've had this experience in a Homebase predecessor many years ago. Looked like I'd fist f**ked a rhino the manager said. Sadly the corporate clothing would have been a bit cooler and more menacing if it was trooper gear.

I'm going to keep my pre-order as I too have not seen the movie...

This kind of artworks works for inside at best.
I showed it to some colleagues from our design department. And really, Disney can't be serious. And what is that artwork trying to tell us? That the movie is all about the troopers?

There are definitely some marketing purposes behind this.

Both the 2D and 3D Amaray releases come with a slipcover available from all retailers in the UK

These will be first batch as usual with later ones without the slipcover

I thought this standalone STAR WARS episode was a lot to do with the storm/death troopers (?) hence appropriate material for the cover artwork.
The promo material and posters are full of beach scenes like these . . . which I guess is hardly surprising considering the setting is the tropical paradise world of Scarif aka The Maldives (and elsewhere):-

That being said if another company is able to release this with bells 'n' whistles then these two images (Rebels / Empire) would make for decent lenticulars (IMO):-

. . . or even as really busy wraparound slipcase artwork:-

I think its the colours. They don't 'gel'. Its like a 8 year old put it together by placing pre-determined images upon one another.

@virkia even in this case, they could have gone with that first artwork you posted.

Where did you find those two awesome lenti gifs?

Cheers Paul. The slipcover art looks rather nice. Now I've got some decision making to do. :)
