The government has approved plans for a redesign of this Puerto Rican city, featuring a new mass transit system, new roads and intersections, and more beach access points. The biggest change? No cars allowed inside the city.

The plans hope to remedy previous poor urban planning in the oldest section of the city, the Isleta, while curbing reliance on motor vehicles. The plans for redevelopment also hope to make the city more appealing in order to attract new residents, as San Juan has suffered from a shrinking population over the past 60 years.

I wonder if their gearing up to force them into being a state... I liked Puerto Rico when I went, and I stayed in San Juan. The locals don't stay there because there's no need. It really is crappy...

The water is amazing! But there's really nothing there to do or see except for a few awesome forts, one of which is being blocked by a damn mega hotel.

I don't see them becoming a state any time soon. The people just don't want to. I think it'd be better though. The forts have been maintained by the US for a while now and are a lot nicer than when they didn't. Before was no official hours/closing off. There'd be bumbs and empty beer bottles around at random spots.

Yeah, I heard it was something close to 50/50 during the last vote to become a state. I know why they wouldn't want to, but the advantages out way the disadvantages at this point. It's such a beautiful place with such amazing people, they really need to update some of their infrastructures and tap their full potential.

I didn't get to go into the forts. We were shooting commercials so I was busy the whole time. I went up to the smaller one closer to San Juan's tourist section but the stupid monster hotel had the walkway blocked.

I LOVED seeing the protesters out there giving them hell though! :)

Yeah, I think it will pass eventually, it's mostly the older generation that are really stuck on not wanting to be officially part of the US. Not to mention, they used to not have taxes, but that changed a few years ago lol.

The fortresses were pretty spectacular. A lot of historical artifacts there, and some great views :D

Got some photos of them here.....http://www.flickr.com/photos/28990537@N03/sets/72157611384964161/

Yeah. I wouldn't have wanted to be part of the US, but now that they have to; and they could be drafted into the army, I'd definitely want to be a state to get the benefits.

But, on topic to the thread, if you haven't gone to SJPR I definitely say you should go! It's amazing! The water is SOOOOOOO nice and warm.
