The greatest thing about this movie is that once you finish it, you feel happy. You end with a big smile in your face after the almost 2 hours and hoping it rains to go outside and jump on puddles like a kid. I don't think there are many movies out there that produce the same feeling every time you watch it.
The story is fine enough - romantic comedy - but it also tells the struggles of artists during the transition from silent films to talkies. All the actors, Gene Kelly, Debbi Reynolds, Donald O'Connor - even Jean Hagen - have a great chemistry between them with still some funny moments for a 70 years old movie. Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen did an amazing job directing this movie and creating those iconic choreographies. Music is very good with 2 or 3 songs you'll always remember. My only "but" for this movie is the final number which has good moments but it's long and it got old. However, you can still appreciate how amazing these dancers are. I'm not afraid to say that its choreographies have been a great influence in other movies, spectacles, musical videos for the last 70 years. Many have tried to imitate their formula and Gene Kelly was a genius and an athlete doing crazy things for that time.
I think you should give it a try and then decide. Even if you don't like musicals or romantic comedies, and you don't see the movie again, I think you won't get bored and it'll be fine enough.
Man... So I decided to watch a clip of this movie yesterday and the clip I watched was the guy singing "singin in the rain". The freaking song has been stuck in my head in non-stop. I keep finding myself humming to it. Who can help
