With all of these re-releases coming out on Steelbook and just about EVERY new movie coming out of Steelbook these days, it seems Steelbook releases are no fun anymore to collect.

I used to be able to preorder the 1 or 2 steelbooks that are released each month but now that almost every movie is coming out on Steelbook I am not enjoying it anymore.

I just found out about the Batman Series coming to steelbook in the UK and then I seen that The Dark Knight Rises is being released ALREADY.

So there are 2 reasons I am stopping.

1 - Too expensive

2 - Too many releases and re-releases

I will now only collect Steelbooks of movies I love. It's a sad day. I can see that Steelbook releases will soon overtake Amaray releases each week.

I feel the same now about them it's every week now. I only started collecting steelbooks last year and am getting a bit bored of it now. I open all mine and watch them. I like having special editions/slipcovers/steelbooks. I personally do not want every movie I own in steelbook!

Calm down folks. Amarays are re released all the time with similar art. As steels become more prevalent, this will be the case. Sad for those who consider them investments but this has always been the nature of the entertainment industry. Premium / popular movies will be re released in amaray and now in steelbook format

I just don't understand why people buy steelbooks of movies they don't like.

For some, steelbooks are about more than the film contained. I personally thought 1408 was a rubbish film. But the original steelbook is such a stunner that I got it to display for it's looks.

There was also the thrill of the hunt trying to obtain it / them, which Barry eludes to as well

To each their own and none of us should judge. It's a sad day when a ninja steps out of the game :(

See, I never care HOW MANY get released ... as I just buy the ones I want to own in steel and save my main $ for the rare ones which are out there if you know which to buy.

Only thing I ever care about is direct reprints. That I dont like ... other than that they can make 100 different Hellboy 2's for all I care as I got the one I want and dont care for the rest.

I am a Completist. I used to have the funds to complete UK Steelbooks, but now it is ridiculous. I am now known to be a Completist with an incomplete collection :(

Its more about finding your common ground mate. And if you still want to remain a UK completist then you can try but just buy a few extra of the ones you know which will be rare and then you can trade 1x steel for 2x, 3x etc. I always beat this game and dont let it beat me! There are ways to be savvy about it.

On the other hand, I know back in the days of early collecting. 2008 2009 there were collectors who collected every steelbook made world-wide. When 2010 came around it was just too much ... but its still very brag worthy if you can say you have a complete library of all BD UK Steels from 2008-2012 etc. You dont have to see it as owning every single one no matter what .... cause if you do ... you'll end up with a lot of titles you truly dont want.

Just find your way mate. I know user and long time member BluRayJunkie had/has one of the most impressive collections on here and he was collecting like literally every release practically all over the world and he finally has found a good medium ... Seemingly he only collects those with English titles. ie. USA/CA/UK/AU

There are still fun ways to collect ... and it being a more personalized version of your "tastes" is always a great thing.

I myself skip tons of releases in steel ... but then I might buy 10 different version of IB or Book of Eli, scarface etc. Some thing I'm crazy but it's fun for me and I enjoy it more cause its my favorite movies with diff art.

My problem is, I feel I need to buy them all in case they are sold out by the time I want to buy that specific title.

I think my first project in my new Mini Steelbook Collection will be Disney Steelbooks for the time being. First up RE-PRE-ORDER Finding Nemo!

well all those batmans have been showing up for release in USA/CA/CZ and now UK .... so it seems like a global run ... either reprints of the USA/CA art or perhaps something fresh ... but who knows ... no reason to fret yet that's for sure.

TDKR could even be just leftover stock from HMV going trade wide as I know the print run on it and it was huge .. too huge! *sorry cant say folks*

Wow sounds silly but I forgot people actually collected steelbooks just for what they are and not for the movie inside?! :wtf: You people are mad :D

Have to say that the comments in the OP are more in line with mine than I care to believe. I used to collect 1 to open and watch (if I could) and 1 for trade; went through a spell of taking up the slack after the Group Buys, but costing me soo much, I'll be honest using the increased in the over buys to increase the collection or plain fund my bank account. Now I'm not so sure.

Germany and its attitude to re-releases is both good and bad. Good in that the re-releases are usually cheaper, and distinguishable by printed labels etc; Bad in that they keep on doing it.

UK they seem to be more of a factory attitude with hoardes being released. Yes we are lucky to have them but it always seems that the next UK Steel I buy was shown on Sky the week before release date.

Asian Steels are very nice but to be honest too damned expensive really.

Like barry, I am/was a completist but am slowly losing the plot and more importantly the enthusiasm about it all.

It would be interesting to know how many steelbooks I've bought so far this year compared to this stage last year. I'm too lazy to actually work that out but I don't feel as if I've had as many this year.

In other words, 20,000 print run of TDKR?

What all these releases will do is make it harder to sell :E I was looking at selling my open/mint Batman 1989 CA but with this release in UK thats going to delay me getting anywhere near what I paid!

Ah well, patience I guess!
