If anything, reprints make the 1st print more collectible. At first, yes, it will devalue the 1st print, but after time, the 1st print becomes more desirable.

Nope, because the artwork is the same. Like many, many others I've instantly stopped trying to obtain the original release - I couldn't care less about the Play.com version now, I've got a pre-order in at £15.

Not really so great when more than half the content is missing

Major damage control alert!

You know as well as I do that most steelbook collectors don't actually give a crap about the content - hence why they'll buy 2D only steels that have a 3D amaray, or they'll buy steels that have discs missing (Avengers Assemble).

Star Trek 2009 just bit the dust as the UK grail.

It is highly, HIGHLY doubtful this will be the same as the original release.

And lets not forget there are already 2 existing releases at the moment. The german version also. Which again, has different artwork.

You could say it bit the dust when it was already re-released in Germany.

Lol iron man here we come thor and captain america could well be on the horizon too just thinking of the popularity of both releases and the fact that both may have a sequel in the making captain america does for sure its a good possibility all of the highly priced and sought after play and hmv stable may be duplicated I for one feel a tad duped by the whole affair

Holy crappola, what a sh*tstorm this is is to wake up to on a Sunday morning!
Can't wait for the mods to provide some clarity as to the position on this zavvi one, e.g. art and production run!

Oh dear. I don't own the original, but for the sake of this hobby, I really hope there is at least a small difference compared to the original.

I suppose the main difference will be the number of discs it comes with. I do not own this as I am new to the steelbook world so have already pre-ordered it, To me though the original is still a 'must have' as it is the original and I am still looking to pick it up when I can afford it.

I collect vinyl as well as steelbooks and you tend to find with records that the labels can re-print or re-issue an LP as many times as they like but it never tends to have a negative impact on the value of the original first press, the value of first press rare records just goes up and up regardless of how many reissues are released.

I may be wrong on this but I feel that the 1st press will still hold its value and this will continue to rise with time. If I am to get a 1st press I should really get one soon as in a couple of years time it will cost me even more!!

This is going to be similar to Zombieland DE original release when it was re-printed. The value will drop, but not a massive big drop.

Zombieland DE got hit bad. The last three on auction have sold between $50-$60 dollars. Before the re-release it went past $100 dollars no problems. The market is flooded with Zombieland Play versions.
I expect the same will happen to Star Trek Play, but not as bad as Zombieland.

It's not even remotely similar. Different territory, different artwork - not to mention that Play was UK only and made it more desirable overseas due to rarity. Now, Zavvi ship worldwide - people don't need to even look for the 1st edition now, they can just stick an order in for this one.
