I'd be fuming if I'd spent good money on the Play version. This isn't just similar, it's identical aside from the plastic insert.

Good money, as in £15.99 when it was released? Or good money as in £100 from eBayers?

If anynoe spent over the retail price, then the only people they can be fuming with is themselves.

I don't own the Play one. But the picture on the Play Website looks different to me...

It's without the blue banner, and Enterprise is bigger...

True, but the 'limited' run that makes steels worth collecting and valuable was basically a lie.

*edit*

Interestingly, the serial number on the steel at the back is exactly the same as the Play version too. That suggests the outside is a complete replica.

That picture is wrong, there's pictures of the original Play.com release in this thread

It's hard not to see values on the Play edition dropping now. I guess some collectors will still want the earlier edition for its full complement of stickers ('Holographic Experience' etc), but for most people this one will do just fine. It'll be interesting to see this one does value-wise on the secondary market now that people know it's a straight reissue.

yeah I have wanted play's edition for ages now, I wasn't collecting when it came out but now that we have this I have zero interest in play's and I'm sure a lot of people will share the same thoughts.

As expected it is an exact reprint. Paramount don't release bad Steelbooks in the UK. I'm glad it looks fantastic, but I do feel kinda bad for collectors who own the Play.com version. I don't see why this one was released aswell as the black one. I think most would've been happy to see just the black version released. I hope Paramount don't make a habit of re-releasing past Steelbooks like this.

So happy that I got this. Not sure what the print run was on this in the end. All seemed very mysterious but glad I got it. The play one was one of the first that I sold ages ago and not at silly prices either, just cost price (gutted). But now its back in my collection I can be happy! :)
