Old Updates & infos:
NEW UPDATE 8/13/2013:
We have a short update on the finish details for our 2 exclusive Star Trek Into Darkness steelbooks. Both the steelbook in the Villain Edition and the Hero Edition steelbook will have debossed title treatments and be matte finishes. We had some fantastic ideas for the ***8220;special packaging***8221; we promised for the Hero Edition, but unfortunately the time constraints of turning this around in just over a month before the release date meant that none of them were possible. The Entertainment Store exclusive sticker that has been on our previous releases will be on these releases too, and we can only apologise for being able to make the Hero Edition special rather than extra special.

All is not lost though ***8211; some of the special packaging we had planned for Star Trek Into Darkness will be present on our next release, which we will be announcing exclusively via HDN on Tuesday 20th August. You won***8217;t be disappointed, I promise!

PREVIOUS UPDATE:
A stunning 2D and 3D blu-ray plus digital copy steelbook. Limited to 4,000 copies and available exclusively from The Entertainment Store. Finish, embossing, release date and pricing TBC, but we have really special plans for the packaging.

Original infos:From our friends at Entertainment Store in the UK:
The Entertainment Store Boldly goes where other E-tailers cannot

The fastest growing Entertainment E-tailer on the Marketplace, The Entertainment Store, continues its strong exclusive packaging offering in September 2013 with the introduction of 2 2D and 3D Blu Ray Steelbooks for Star Trek: Into Darkness Home Entertainment release.

The limited edition Steelbooks are limited to 4,000 copies each, and will be available to Pre-order from The Entertainment Store on Play.com from midday Friday July 19th 2013.

Since its arrival in March 2013 The Entertainment Store has been working closely with Paramount Home Entertainment and have already teamed up to bring us exclusive Blu Ray SKUs such as GI Joe and Hansel and Gretel but this latest batch of releases look to be the most interesting yet. The E-tailer distributes product directly from the Studio warehouses so the product is guaranteed as authentic and of the highest quality.

Sorry bud but I have to disagree with the bait comment, and that has been null and voided anyway by the honesty from ES ahead of charging those pre-orders to allow you to cancel if you weren't happy with the product.

Not many retailers would have done that. Fact.

I to am disappointed that there isn't something extra but by them telling us ahead of time, where we can post it on the forum and let the masses know, you as the purchaser get the opportunity to cancel your order.

If you feel the price is too high for just this steelbook then you can exercise your judgement and not order the item or cancel your order just like any other release. If you are in a GB there is likely still time to cancel based on this information since no one has been charged, a bit of extra work for the GB members but likely they will be understanding based on the circumstances.

What happens about those members who want to purchase the steelbook but feel ostracised due to the way a seller prices or packages their exclusive?

Should they remain silent and not voice their opinion by registering their disappointment on an open forum?

Just like any collectible item's price, it is ultimately your choice what you spend your money on, if the price is too high like any other item you don't actually have to buy it. However as the email stated the price is also set based on the movie studio not just ES.

Sorry but that is just being pedantic. If things aren't set in stone why mention them in the first place and risk damaging your customer base. It's because if you don't get people interested by whetting their appetites with possibilities then your pre-orders/sales won't be as good. Also when you are in a privileged position to have a relatively isolated customer base that has very little option to go else where you can do pretty much anything to them and they will still keep coming back for more.

Who's fault is that? Six of one, half a dozen of the other if you ask me.

I think you are coming at this from the wrong angle. I have the faith that ES as a retailer wanted to have this extra (packaging/item) but due to timing, costs, etc they were unable to do it. Just like the HDN exclusive #1 where we would have like to have a slip for all 500 but were unable to do it. Plans sometimes change and you make due and move forward. Again ultimately you are buying the steelbook what you get on top of that is bonus and again if the price is too high you don't have to buy it. They were open about this and that is commendable.

As to this particular steelbook the art is great and as far as I see only blufans may get the same cover and since I want this cover I will buy it.

As already mentioned above, if things aren't set in stone why mention them in the first place? Also, there is nothing wrong with asking for a discount. They were prepared to offer free replacements of the JR steelbook for a mistake, why wouldn't people think they would be as obliging again with another gesture of goodwill?

This thread is to discuss the steelbook, asking for a discount or harping about it just pulls the thread off topic and can become a flame war, so with that as DB has asked and as I am asking please get back on topic to the steelbook

I hear it will still be debossed but did they say is it just the title or maybe the ship? :naughty:

Ben, details on limited editions change all of the time. We have 1000's of editions posted in this forum. It is a fact that retailers' plans change due to a number of reasons. Steelbook collecting has always been highly speculative in terms of runs, finishes, packaging, how it 'looks' vs how it feels in hand. Plans change period. But, we were notified by the group that works 1st hand on these releases, and the info was shared immediately with you all. Since I know what was 'to be' originally which cannot be shared at this time, I can tell you that update today was not based on some retailer tactic, but based on a timeline that had to be changed because the original plan could not be done after all-based on all parties involved.

What I am saying is to not automatically jump to conclusions. From all we know 1st hand, I can say that the folks working on this have been listening and implementing our community's feedback from collectors for years, with many major releases seeing the light if day because of their commitment to collector tastes at HDN.

Out of fairness, lets please not resort to accusations when there is no basis for it. They have apologized already and given us notice. The world and life is not as rigid as to suggest that they can't make any announcement if they don't have every single detail ahead of time. We often see art changes the week items ship.

Every retailer makes marketing plans in advance-but sometimes things don't turn out exactly as planned-that's life and that is reality.

No one here at anytime said you were not allowed to express your unhappiness with this update, but there is a way to comment in an intelligent manner without accusing anyone of malice or deliberate misleading-some of the cynicism informs these comments-and here I am telling you, that in a market which has often become flooded the group working behind the scenes here is committed to making their future releases special and unique. That's saying alot with some countries cranking out 'cookie cutter' releases and flooding the market.

As far as the discount and anger towards them-go ahead if you feel it's what you need to do. Here at HDN we still ask that threads stay on topic and not degenerate into endless arguments and attacks.

My suggestion not to buy is what it ultimately boils down to. We're not cool with rudeness to members or industry folks who have committed to making some cool releases happen because they are the very people trying to make collectors excited.

If you feel they are wrong they are wrong and you're free to let people know if that's how you feel. But as a general comment, it's the accusations and conspiracies that get out of hand...and lets trolls and negativity flourish-something those not interested in that hostile environment just don't care to read.

Fortunately, I didn't factor the supposed "special packaging" into my purchase decision anyway because it sounded like something extraneous, and all I care about is the SteelBook. I open everything and as such couldn't care less about slips or stickers or any other silly thing that might stand between my eyeballs and my expensive movie case. I am big into slips on amarays because they're an upgrade, but they're the exact opposite on steels IMO.

I am however very bummed to learn that they aren't going gloss, as it would have really (literally) shined with this art. The debossing is fantastic news though, the world needs more debossed steels and far less embossed borders. And as many have said, Paramount's matte to date has been markedly better than anyone else's, so hey, if it must be so, at least it's them.

All in all, this is still the best art IMO (assuming this is still the only release with this combination of elements), and hey, at least they let people know exactly what they were getting ahead of time. That's more than I can say for some SteelBook retailers.

Unbunch your panties everyone. Great film. Great price. 3D included (which everyone moans about). Great artwork (not everything needs to be glossed an look like a chippy workers forehead to be 'good'). And the the special packaging wasn't an issue when you didn't know what it was so why is it in an issue now it's not going to be there even though you have no idea what it would have been?

Bottom line. If you're not happy then cancel it. But you won't because a large number of you would have ordered multiple copies to 'trade' an wouldn't want to miss out of the next 'grail' even though there'll never be another.

Rant over.

dont know if this is a silly question or not lol... but is the hero edition just the steelbook on its own?? and the villian edition the boxed hotwheels pack??

Waiting for the discount on the Villain version as they probably have 3500 left of those:hilarious: They should have released 1000 of the Villian version and then the 4000 of the standard. It would have mad more sense because of the price difference....

Agree with you, villian will be there around christmas

Yes the hero version is just the steelbook on its own and the villain edition comes with the hotwheels.

I would not worry about ANY UK steel going out of print. It be all flooded all over ebay and on the forums. Of course everyone multi buys to force steels OOP hoping they gain value. It is a common and natural thing to do, to make a few quid. With ebay you probably can even get it cheaper lol.

I remember when T2 Kimchi talks about it being very limited, potential grail, all that OOP hype nonsense, and here we are on ebay struggling to sell for £50.
