I met Robert Kazinsky, who was one of the main actors in this. He's a big Trek fan, so the end result was disappointing for him too. One interesting tidbit he mentioned was there was a mandate to keep the film under a certain time, something like 96 or 95 minutes. There was a lot more shot, so it would be interesting to see a longer cut as parts or it don't really make sense.

I think i stopped watching at about 1/3 of the way in. I’m generally forgiving of trek, but what I saw was arguably worse than the worst of Discovery (and the 4th season had some truly atrocious episodes, while the 5th was better, but hardly good). I can’t imagine why they’d want it so short, given that it’s just a streaming movie (so long as the extra footage didn’t require a lot of CGI post work).

Wow, worse than season 4 of Discovery? That must have been hard to do. Discovery season 4 was the worst Star Trek I've ever seen.
Exactly. Though I guess what makes S4 less bad is that I just skipped every section that had the Trill in it. To this day, I have no idea why they thought that story line was necessary, much less good. I skipped it and it made no difference at all.
But for 31, despite it having a fair amount of action, I was bored afer 30 minutes (give or take). I'm pretty sure watching ST V followed by Generation (which I hated) would be a better use of time. That said, I guess it might have gotten better after the first 30 minutes, but I'm not gonna find out.

Yeah, season 4 was total garbage. I'm confused as well why they thought their ideas were good. It was like a whole season of just talking.
