I kept my pre-order as I hoped it wouldn't be as bad as what people were assuming. I'm definately not excited by it and it also has a small scratch on the front. Safe to say it is being returned!

Now the only question is do I get the amaray or wait for a (hopefully better) 3D steelbook!?

It depends if you've got 3D equipment. This version should be the definitive version for me except if an edition with extra bonus features is announced. I love this franchise so I'd happily shell out for them. I've ordered the amaray for now though. :)

I've got the UK one too and apart from it not having a title , which I don't like I'm not actually that disappointed with the finish on it.

I do like glossy steelbooks but I also like the matte or brushed finish. It's nice to have a bit of variety.

To me it's not so much the glossy thing (although it does look a hell of a lot better in gloss) it's the title. Why oh why is there no title!?

Fair point but in this case it doesn't help when the other six films are in glossy titled steelbooks.
I know that the US one doesn't match 100% but it matches a hell of a lot more than this worthless piece of smelly cat poo!

With you on the glossy / matte variety bit but the difference between the look/finish/lack of titles on this steel and Nos. 1-6 released last year is unfortunate for those hoping for a matching set / continuity of design etc.

Of course, it was only to be expected that with a different studio involved it would have been a total fluke if it matched the others . . .

Anyway, not going to focus any more on the negatives about this steelbook and I'll be thinking of the future - in other words, hopefully this one will be a perfect match for Nos. 8 & 9 (whenever they appear) and this modern trilogy will have its own personality . . .
we all know that Disney can produce beautiful matching steelbooks when they want to and I'm thinking of their three "Pirates of the Caribbean" amongst others.

As always I hate the lack of title, but the matte finish doesn't bother me.

I never expected it to match the previous re-releases by Fox (although I have the 2 trilogy sets anyway), but Disney just continue to disappoint here in the EU. It's sad but to be expected and I've kind of resigned myself to it. You know, I probably wouldn't have minded as much if it had at least had the poster art on the front as at least that was vibrant and well put together.

You can bet Episodes VIII and IX and Rogue One will be just as poor. There's no way the spines will even match I'd imagine. Sure, they'll all have pictures on them but compare Avengers Assemble (HMV), Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron (all Zavvi) and not one of them have pictures that start or finish at the same heights.

So far from Disney, only Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur actually match where picture-spines are concerned..
