SteelBook closure - Studios should not leave sets incomplete!

If there's one thing that really annoys me about the films released as SteelBooks to date, it's that some studios tend to neglect completing sets. FOX / MGM are the prime culprits here, although Paramount and Universal are equally as guilty

For example:

FOX / MGM gradually released 32 films as Dvd SteelBooks featuring their Defiitive Edition branding. They had a habit of releasing some films in a series, but then never giving us the rest. The obvious example is X-Men and X-Men 2, but never X-Men 3. Likewise, The Terminator was released, but never Terminator 2 or Terminator 3. Conan The Barbarian, but never Conan The Destroyer. However, they did release all four Alien films, as well as both Predator films as part of this range, so it's not all bad news

This trend seems to have continued for UK Blu-Ray releases, where we are still waiting for key titles to be released in order to "complete" a set of SteelBooks for a particular series. We have so far received a SteelBook release for The Terminator, Terminator 2, and Terminator Salvation, but still no Terminator 3 - You would think that this would be an obvious title to release above all others?!

The same can also be said for many other series of films. We've had two Resident Evil films released as Blu-Ray SteelBooks, so what about the rest? Highlander has been released twice in SteelBook form - Once as a Dvd, and again as a Blu-Ray - But never the sequels. Why? Same goes for Pirates Of The Caribbean, where we had a Blu-Ray SteelBook for On Stranger Tides, but never the first three films in the series...

It's early days yet, but we've only seen one Robocop Blu-Ray SteelBook so far, which leads many people to believe that the other two films will follow in due course - However, we've been burned before (as mentioned at the beginning of this post), and nothing is entirely certain. Same applies to The Matrix - Will we ever see the other two parts of the series? Three, including The Animatrix. Transformers too, and what about the other X-Men films as Blu-Ray SteelBooks?

One release that really annoyed me is the Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 1 Blu-Ray SteelBook - What is the point of having a single SteelBook release in a series of eight films in total? Even more frustrating is the fact that most people assumed that there would be a Deathly Hallows Part 2 SteelBook to go with Part 1, but there never was!

Sometimes I honestly wonder what goes through the minds of the people in charge of making these executive decisions about what SeelBooks to release next. You would think that someone high up would have a general idea of what consumers and SteelBook collectors would want in their collections, and provide accordingly? Apparently not!

We shouldn't have to be having discussions about what titles we want released next, and then be listing a ton of really obvious titles that "complete" existing sets that the studios should already be planning to give us! Titles like Terminator 3, Robocop 2 & 3, and the other Matrix parts should already be conceived!

Sometimes I think this is down to different studios having different films in a series - Terminator 1 is Fox, T2 is Lionsgate, T3 is Sony (I think), T4 is Sony.

I doubt you'll ever see Robocop 2 and 3 except as part of a trilogy set - they just aren't popular enough to warrant a 4,000 steelbook run.

I totally agree with this. I can't stand it when only part of a movie series is released.

Yes its needed to have all in a series
eg. Underworld, Matrix and more
All these are needed to complete a collection

Yes, and there is a big opportunity for the studios to sell through (sometimes) inferior sequels.(yet again version over version released throughout the years) because many collectors 'need' or 'want' a 'set'. I hope they do more complete sets in the future...plenty of interest, especially in the most popular franchises.

Yah. I'm a bit perplexed at all the Back to the Future (#1) steelbook options, but the only set that includes all 3 films has foreign text all over them.

Would be nice to have a matching set of 3 or a really nice trilogy steelbook option from the US or UK.
