If would be better if the ebay scaplers not been allowed to order any copies at all
Even better would be ebay sellers not order any copies and leave these copies for customers to order from the retailer instead at retail price
Ebay price IMO should be retail price and not a cent more and if I had my way inforcing this would be a rule and would stop the scalpers across a lot of products
In a perfect world that would be the case but we can't control these things, if a retailer put a limit on customers and those customers wanted more copies then thosw people would just have multiple accounts or get family members and friends to order for them, if they want it they would find away so it's best not to stress about it, it's a shame but that's how it is. what im concerned about is when a company sells a product stated yo be "limited to 1000 units" I expect that to be the case.. this worries me far more.. also after all these years of producing and selling steelbook's that are limited, the fact that they don't add a card that states its number eg 1,165/4000 is beyond me and also makes me think they've always printed what they like on certain titles.. especially when certain titles that have been sold out for ages then pop up and never seem to sell out again.

I only know one man who has that lol @blu-steel, Todd!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And what a small change business is flipping steelbooks at 30-40% over cost.
If someone wanted to make real money, they'd be flipping cars and real estate.
I hate when I have extras and have to get rid of them - it's a huge pain in the a** even if I make a coupla bucks.

Paul it's business at the end of the day. Zavvi could not really care less where their stock goes. As long as they sell that's all they care. Who and where it goes upto it's not their problem at all. If everyone was restricted to one copy then this would take ages to sell out and they wouldn't confidently add another 500 copies to their print run and increase their profits. Think a little wider out of the box. Scalpers or how should I say this, third party business re-sellers more professionally, support the retailer's by selling and getting rid of their stock and the retailer can move onto the next exclusive.

Your rule on ebay is very delusional. No one is going to waste time selling for cost price on ebay and make nothing out of it. They sell to make a profit. If they were to sell at cost price that is what retailers are there for lol.
A retailer does not need every release to sell out straight away as long as you sell out 60% of the stock within 3-6 months your business is doing well it also adds to repeat customers to purchase other items while they browse instore or online.
If customer goes into a store and don't see the item they want they go elsewhere while if that store has the item in stock they in most cases get other items sold at the same time.

Some collectors are fixated on a release selling out within minutes if a retailer don't have stock of a popular release they loose out on repeat customers and casual customers

If I had my way ebay would have lot of restriction similar as to ticket sales

Trading has also become less fun, since it seems everybody has everything.
Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the "looking for" thread is less robust than it used to be.

In that case Zavvi should had restricted to just THE one copy and 1000 individual collectors be satisfied. Therefore this would not had sold out in an hour and for Warner not to add another 500 copies. That would mean less money made. End of story.

Money and profits Mr Boland, that's what companies want, to Maximise and milk as much money possible.

I don't think that is a HUGE factor. We, as steelbook collectors, tend to forget that we are a niche within a niche.
The figures and money made on steelbook sales are microscopic in that ecosystem.

I was in retail for years and the stores I was a Buyer the stores was the most profitable compared to other shops and is the reason both of them Tower Records Ireland and Chapters Music/Film/Book store are still operating today while most others shops closed down.
Choice as in range of selection and price keep a business running
If you loose customers to ebay or other retailers you end up closed down

I also think a lot of people (like me) just have to cut back on the amount of money we spend on these things. There's a few I'd like to get but just can't afford at the moment.

Well, I mean 1 to 1 trading. Not selling/buying trading.
And it seems like 80% of the stuff people have for trade is Marvel.
We have a serious over saturation of Marvel.

That's because the Market is completely over inflated with steelbooks. There are so many versions to get there is no need to do a trade these days unless it is something ultra rare. How many releases do we see of a big block buster movie?

In the old days the three countries/areas that ruled were Germany, Canada(Future Shop exclusives) and Asian (such as Blufans and Chinese Iron Packs). The trades were so common because the exclusives were restricted to that country with WEA and the best option was to trade instead shelling out loads of money.

A common sort of trade would be T2 2.0 JP for IM FS. Unglorious Basterds for say Romeo and Juliet Iron Pack. But so many movies have been reprinted it would make sense to source it locally cheaper.

glad i managed to get a copy yesterday after the shambolic way Zavvi dealt with the pre order on the 12th October!......something really stank about that whole business...FFS one ebay seller that evening had claimed to have sold 28 copies!!!! so i for one am glad that Zavvi have rectified this with a decent pre order time AND given notice of that time so decent collectors who also love IT could snag a copy!!! I hate ebay scalpers!!!!

I don't have a problem with sellers on ebay selling something at a higher price than cost. That is normal, and their prerogative. When I say "scalpers" I don't mean necessarily people selling steelbooks at 2/3 to double the cost on ebay. Some of those are just folks who grabbed an extra copy to make a few bucks. The real villains are they guys who have a system that bum-rushes live times with multiple computers and Multiple IPs, who grab a majority of available stock and then sell it on ebay. (Like the guy you mention, who miraculously has 28 copies).
Unfortunately, there really is no way to combat that.

Right hope to see a Steelbook treatment for the:
The Stand
Langoliers

I'd be alright with both, but Langoliers I think is not really known enough to get the treatment.

Glad to say I got my order for IT in with the recent cancelations stock they had.

Not according to Zavvi.de it ain't.
Zavvi sent out email updated limited to 1,500 as that's the overall print run for the steelbook from Zavvi it was not another 1,500 on top of the 1,000
The previous email was 1,000 limited
Warner supplied them with more stock as in another 500 units so that is why the email said 1,500 and is also why the 500 sold fast as it was only extra 500

If they had of got another 1,500 on top of the 1,000 if would be available for hours yesterday and more likely still available today to order

This has opened quite a can of worms.

Let's close down eBay!

While I feel bad for those who overpaid, there is no guarantees for exclusivity on SteelBooks because anyone can reprint a SteelBook at any time. Look at I AM LEGEND or IRON MAN or any number of has-been grails which are no longer commanding the prices that they used to.

Unfortunately in SteelBook collecting there is little to no guarantee of exclusivity.

Secondly, collecting as a hobby is self-defeating. That is, the more people who collect it, the less valuable it is.

Simply put, collect for the joy of owning the SteelBook, but don't place expectations on perceived value of your SteelBook collection. Just ask anyone who collected DVD SteelBooks and they will tell you.

Well, the only mail the German Zavvi newsletter sent out yesterday said "1500 more limited Stephen King's It steelbooks" and "Only 1500 copies more".
