zavvi seriously need to do something about their site. those stupid codes they use to identify your orders, instead of (logic) using the film/product title. i had numerous copies of this pre-ordered by mistake. cancelled 2 today, but still had two dispatched.

had zavvis site been up to scratch, i wwould have easily been able to identify duplicate orders, but since they use codes (may as well be hieroglyphics) those orders slipped by undetected.

now i have to go through their infamous returns procedure.

oh, and also not happy they BROKE the conditions i agreed to make the purchase originally, by moving the release day forward. wtf. when are zavvi going to get their act together.

not happy

Why does it matter that they moved the release date forward? You still wouldn't have realised you had multiple copies ordered. In any case, it is your own fault for ordering multiples in the first place and not keeping track of your own pre-orders.

incorrect.

i always review my orders when i know a release for a title is close. zavvi brought the release date for this title forward unannounced, meaning i had no/little time to amend my orders.

i had money taken from my account that i had not anticipated, of course, it was zavvi, so i went immediately to their nightmare of an order page to check what was going on. i found my multiple orders and cancelled two. but another two had already been dispatched.

zavvi's order page is simply not user friendly. you can not manage your pre-orders from it alone. it is essentially, useless. so yes, if you mistakenly make multiple orders, they can slip though undetected.

you should be able to browse your orders and identify them at a glance- like every other respectable site on the net. not scour through pages of codes, opening 15 tabs to find what you are looking for.

it is ridiculous.

There are a few simple steps collectors can take to avoid problems like this. The first would be to set up a spreadsheet or similar with a list of pre-orders. I do this myself (as do many others) and always note down the title and the other important details such as price, retailer and order number. Of course that is not a solution to moving release dates, instead subscribing to 'Upcoming Blu-ray SteelBook™ Schedule' thread or even the separate release threads would be more helpful where release date changes are usually spotted and pointed out by helpful members. You could always just have a quick look around Zavvi's website too, the time it took you to write your post could have easily been spent checking a few pages on Zavvi's website.

I know Zavvi's website is awkward and could really do with a complete redesign, but it has been the same since they started releasing exclusive Steelbooks. It's also not the first time a release date has been moved only a couple of weeks before release. I just feel that collectors should take a little more responsibility rather than blaming retailers for every little issue.

Exactly I think every hour on the hour is sufficient to check zavvi's website to see if a release date has been changed. They of course can't be held responsible for notifying customers that purchased there products, that the release date has changed. That of course is the customers responsibility.

It's no wonder customer service is so shoddy nowadays if we can't expect retailers to let customers know when the release dates for items they've ordered have changed. By this logic, they shouldn't let us know when items have been delayed either and we should find out for ourselves. What about retailers that charge you on checkout even for pre-orders? Should they not let you know that things you've ordered have been delayed even though they've taken your money already?

Also, Zavvi could be clearer in general about release date changes. Sure they change the dates on the product pages, but they also love to inexplicably take the links to these down from their site. Yesterday I was looking for The Last Stand Steelbook page and it was nowhere to be found on Zavvi itself and I had to access it externally through the link here on HDN. And while they might change the date there, they don't always change the despatch/release date on the actual order details. For example...

In my account it says:
order01.jpg

But on the actual product page:
order02.jpg

Pre-ordered this with a discount, but decided to cancel last minute. Just couldn't justify paying more than £15 for yet another catalogue title.

I tried to cancel when I saw Futurhythm's 10:32 AM post on June 26. I cancelled around 11:15 AM, I thought it had worked, and then 90 minutes later I received a dispatch email, and then on June 27 I received an email saying they were sorry my cancellation request wasn't successful... :squint:

I'm not going to go out of my way to send them back Swingers upon receipt (as they suggest in the June 27 email) : this film seems great, I wanted the steelbook, and I'll keep it. But still, it would have been better to pay less than €20.42 (got it with -10% off) for a catalogue release that I'm sure will be in stock for a while.

I hope for a surprise gloss finish like Zavvi's I Saw the Devil that wasn't advertised as being glossy and yet it was :movie: (though StudioCanal isn't distributing Swingers, it's Lionsgate, and they don't have a good track record gloss-wise).
