First glance, I liked the look. Then I saw the price, holy merde.

Then I noticed the 'glowing embers' or whatever you want to call them that I feel really don't belong there. Is this some Fox drag and drop thing? 'Throw in some red sparks to add energy will you?'. And finally, for now, reading the other posts I thought it does look like they employed a Liam Neeson double for quick green screen photoshoot. But then I looked at the French steelbook thread and thought, with the exception of the hand, they do look very similar...

I also have the Play.com edition but I do prefer the artwork for this release. I'll certainly double dip at a more realistic price.

Hopefully, this will also be released in Italy. Most of the titles in the last two Fox UK waves were also available from amazon.it for around EUR 14 each (£11), which was a lot less than the prices being charged here. The ones I wanted that were not released in Italy, I managed to pick up yesterday for £10 each in Fox Direct's one day flash sale. So, if one is prepared to be patient, there should be no problem in eventually obtaining this for somewhat less than what Zavvi is asking.

Used to be Germany being admonished for re releasing titles. UK seems to have TAKEN over that thrown. Although I must say I do like the infusion of color on this.

Greedy retailers/studios are no different whether they are based in the UK, Germany or your beloved Asia :)

...but ultimately, as long as there is a flow of new collectors with this mindset:

I'm not paying £30 for the original Play.com release

u can expect re-releases and reprints to become the norm

(2013 has already pretty much established this)

I really like this artwork. Can do without the action movie poster embers and filter though; reminds me a bit too much of the artwork for the Die Hard re-releases. I also miss the sparseness of the Play.com and French versions. That being said though, I can see myself replacing my Play one for this version since Liam Neeson isn't cobbled together awkwardly in Photoshop this time. But of course, like what almost everyone has mentioned before me, the price is ridiculous.

Wonder if they'll re-release 2 as well. As much as I hated the second movie (and I don't have high hopes for the third), I'd love to have all of them in Steelbook.

That price is ridiculous! Surprised to see its to be released on 8th December too.

I love this film, but I have to agree, the price $47.68 RIDICULOUS!

I am perfectly happy with the beautiful edition I already have:

If for some reason this goes on sale or turns out stunning I will pick it up. But if it ain't anything special I will pass.

Stop with the back catalog now and get sorting out A Walk Among The Tombstones, Gone Girl, Interstellar and Nightcrawler please :bored:

Doesn't even look like Neeson on the front cover haha

Shame that this will still be the cut release on the BD but it's obvious they are just getting this released ready for the third movie

Taken DOES NOT need to be re-released as a SteelBook! We already have nearly two dozen re-released UK titles, and only a few of those actually deserved it! THe first release of Taken was a PLAY.com exclusive and was considerably cheaper than the price Zavvi are advertising for this re-release SteelBook! If this is £12.99, I'll bite, but anything more than £14.99 and they are seriously taking the piss! 20th Century Fox should also know better than to re-release a SteelBook in a country which already has one! It's bad enough that we already have the likes of Predator, Prometheus, Life Of Pi, I Robot, Avatar, and Abraham Lincoln being re-released as 3D SteelBooks, but why Taken? Scrolling down the HDN forums I also see Willow is also getting a 3D SteelBook... WHY?

Because its cheap relative to the trader price here in the HDN classifieds or on Ebay.
New collectors are now the no.1 target audience for steelbook retailers, as retailers can charge highly for popular rehashes, whilst still appearing to be fair (compared to oos originals).

This also may be why it takes a very long time (if ever) for retailers to release back catalogue titles that have never had a steeelbook release before. There is simply not the same potential for profit, compared with re-releasing Marvel steelbooks over and over and over and over (n)

But as greed focused corporate business :greedy: :greedy: :greedy: :greedy:, this is really to be expected. …Indeed, perhaps steelbook collectors sick of re-releases & reprints should now start taking their frustrations out on the influx of newer collectors whom are unwilling and uncaring to pay more for oos older titles and support new releases?

Just a thought :)
